The McHenry cross country team made a surprisingly strong showing in the Maine West Invitational meet, finishing ninth overall among twenty-four schools and seventh in the varsity race. It is common on all levels of football for a team's defensive unit to be superior to its of fensive unit in the first game of the season. That was the case when McHenry opened its season against Rockford Boylan. Both defenses com pletely shut off the offenses, with the Warrior defense playing especially well. The McHenry varsity golf team swept three matches boosting its season record to 5- o. The Warriors toppled Marian Central 156-169, after rolling over defending state champion Prospect and Elgin Larkin on the McHenry home course. Paced by the fine per formances of four local residents, the Marian Central varsity cross country team upset Crown, handing the Vikings their first loss of the year, 24-31.
