Huemann and Jim Conway bought two Austin-Western rigs from a retiring driller in the area. Shop was set up in Johnsburg. Conway, though, disolved the partnership 10 years late and Huemann became the sole owner. The company still operates from the same corner on which the senior Huemann started. Joseph H. Huemann retired in 1937 leaving the books and rigs with his two oldest sons. Family tradition has played an important role in the Huemann drilling story. Four Huemanns are now connected with the business and two employees are close relatives of Bill and John. Joseph G. Huemann retired in 1972, leaving the business with William and John Huemann. The firm serves an area within a 50 mile radius of Johnsburg drilling between 200-225 wells a year. Better than 75% of the wells are for residential purposes. In addition to the new rotary rig, Huemann's now operate 4 cable rod rigs drilling wells from 5" to 12" in diameter. They also install 250 pumps per year ranging from 1/8 h.p. to 150 h.p.
