FRIDAY. FEBRUARY t, 1W There's An Answer (by Norman Vincent Peale and Ruth Stafford Peale) - Fears Impending Doom Q. I get these feelings of impending doom that last for days. I can thing it is to think that you're on the border of insanity. I want to learn how to help myself, and most of aU, I'd like someone to give me the hope that I can truly overcome my problem. I want to get on with my life and learn how to live instead of Just wri«Hng Thank you for your help. A Your question indicates that you could do with a reorganized and more healthy thought pattern. Anxiety is a mental sickness which irrationally feeds on the idea that something terrible is going to happen. In your case your anxiety tries to convince you that you are "on the borderof insanity." If you were, you could not write such an intelligent question. So we suggest that you imngy or picture yourself as a normal, healthy human being and daily practice acting that way. We have a booklet, Thought Conditioners, that has helped others with fears such as yours and a copy of it is on its way to you. Anyone wishing a free copy may receive one by writing to us in care of Box 500, Pawling, NY 12564. Lover In Prison Q. My question concerns the man I hope to marry. Although we have never seen eachjother, we are both quite sure that God meant for us to be together. He is in prison in another state. Please don't jump to any conclusions yet. He knows that what he did was wrong and has no intention of repeating his mistake. He is very much interested in making a good life with me and the ldds. We write to each other almost every day and are very much in love. I'm not ashamed of his being in prison nor will I ever hold it against him. Why can't people understand that people can fall in love via letterwriting? How do I make others understand that this is real, true and honest love? A. Drop your uptightness about trying to convince other people that you have a true and honest love. You probably cannot change inions, but you can listen carefully to make sure you are seeing facets of the situation. If you feel and the man feels that you can form a romantic attraction via the mail, it is your business and his. We might add, however, that it could be vary dangerous to marry a person you have never seen. You cannot really know a person under those circumstances. Better test it thoroughly after his prison term is over. Husband Tried To Kill Her Q. It has been 36 years since we married. I have taught school, kept house and helped some in the store. While I paid the bills he spent his money on alcohol, women and pleasure. I can name twenty-six women he has been with. Last May I decided to get a divorce, but I didn't tell him. The lawyer told me to take money out of <yir joint bank account, and when my husband found out he came to the house and tried to kill me. This was his fifth try at killing roe. I left home (it's in my name and paid for) and he has locked it with bolts, steel plates, new locks, etc. I did not want to go to court, but it seems as if this is what will happen. It will be a "messy" case. Can you offer me any good advice to use in court? A. Your side of this case, from what you say, appears quite damaging to your husband. Not knowing his version makes it impossible to form a complete judgment We are not lawyers, of course, but if all the facts are aa you represent them to be, you have only to recite them honestly in court A good lawyer can help you. If there is something you would like to ask Dr. and Mrs. Peale to discuss in this column, write to them in care of Box 500, Pawling, NY 12564. If you would like to talk directly with a prayer partner, call Prayer Line (212) 481-1050. Reduced long-distance rates are in effect nights and weekends. 2J American Legion Auxiliary News UNIT NO. 491 By Pearl Cooper Every year the American country the CARE" program, under the Foreign Relations program. Instructor Geraldine Whitt and students in the class will do all their communicating using their hands rather than speech. Beginning February 3, the class will teach the hand communication techniques used by hearing-impaired persons, their families and friends. Mrs. Whitt has taught sign language to the staff at the Pioneer Center for the Ex ceptional in McHenry and is a graduate of Gallaudet College for the.Deaf. Although she can read lips and speak, Mrs. Whitt uses a teaching technique that requires students to use sign language to communicate as they are learning. - Some signs are common gestures that are already used by people when speaking. ' Signs indicating the letters of the alphabet are taught first, so that students are able & "fingerspeU" words. After learning the alphabet, students progress to signs for specific words and the techniques needed to cortl- municate in sign language. The ability to read sign language done by another person is altfb taught during the class. Instruction will last for sixteen weeks and will meet ih room 108 at Lundahl Junior High school in Crystal Lake on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Registration for the class fe - underway at the college and may be done in person or by telephone. e e e e More ill health is-, caused by too much food than too little. „ ONE-STOP{ravel service Cheia4M.akes TRAVEL SERVICE S48f W.
