Ring wood News 385-8037 653-9262 728-0343 $19,700 For Tripping The Light Fantastic Six weary' but. very happy, teenagers from the Ringwood United Methodist church danced the full twenty-four hours at the dance-a-thon for Easter Seals last weekend in Woodstock. The young people who participated were Lauri Bidlack, Laura Schiller, Sue Schiller, Tammi Schiller, Cindy Spencer and Scott Silzer. Cindy said the hours of midnight to 3 a.m. were the hardest to get through but after a short rest period, they were ready to go again. We are very proud of these young people and all those who participated. In case you haven't heard, this group at Woodstock collected $19,700 which broke the national record for any group collecting for Easter Seals. LENTEN SERIES During the months of February and March the parish of the Greenwood-Ringwood churches will be studying "The Trials of Jesus" each Thursday evening from 7:30-9:30: Feb. 16 at Paul Walkington's in Ringwood; Feb. 23 at Art Christopher's on Ringwood road; March 2 at Marge Evans in Wonder Lake. CHILI SUPPER Don't forget the chili supper at the Ringwood church this Saturday night, Feb. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m There will be a nominal charge to help these young people raise money for church school projects. SYMPATHY The community extends condolences to the family of Mrs Verona Bozovsky who died in Burlington. Wis., at the age of 56. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Wayne Brennan was guest-of- honor last Sunday on his fourteenth birthday, at a dinner hosted by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Brennan, and sister, Wendy Those attending the happy occasion were grandparents, Charles and Dolores Brennan, and great- grandmother Nellie Hepburn. Others sharing in the festivities were Frank and Lil Visconti and son, Frankie, and /Art Jensen. The day was complete with birthday cake and gifts. We wish you many more, Wayne. CHURCH RUMMAGE SALE The Ringwood church semi annual rummage sale will be coming up the first Friday and Saturday of March; Friday, March 3 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday, March 4, will be from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Remember, folks, now is the time to check out all those summer clothes, knickknacks, etc., and get them down to the rummage sale. If you need to have things picked up call your reporters and they will see that someone provides for pick-up. Note the new numbers. Remember, your junk may be someone else's treasure. Also this is before Easter and just maybe you can find your new Easter bonnet at the sale. It has been done in the past. Besides being fun, there will also be "coffee and" for your pleasure. HERE AND THERE Paul and Althea Walkington traveled to Oregon, 111., last Sunday to spend the day with son, Tom, and his wife, Mia. A very enjoyable day was had. Dorothy, Alby and Tim Adams, Lenore, Mark and Carol Freund, and Ray and Marge Moore all of McHenry, were supper guests in the Walt Low home last Saturday evening. BIRTHDAYS Happy Birthday to Helen Winn and Charles Borchardt Feb. 14, St. Valentine's day. Feb. 15 is that special day for Cindy Bake and Nadine Beaman. Career Planning Workshop In County For Teachers PAGE 5 - PLAINDEALER - A career planning workshop for area teachers will be held Feb. 25, in Woodstock, Educational Service Region Supt. Edward W. Hall has announced. The workshop, co- sponsored uyth Northern Illinois university's Adult Education division, is called "Putting Teaching Skills to Work - But Not in Teaching " The course is designed for teachers who may not have found teaching positions, or whose position may have been eliminated because of changing enrollments, or who may be thinking about leaving the field of education. Dr Richard Deems. Career Planning consultant for the Adult Education division, explained The workshop will include a discussion of the educational and general job markets, in troduce participants to a process of identifying their skills, and suggest ways they can explore career alter natives. Dr. Deems said. Leadership for the workshop will be from Northern Illinois university's Adult Education division and Career Planning and Placement office. A fee will be charged for the workshop, which includes coffee break, noon meal, materials, and a copy of Bolles' book. I Skills Seminar Three Saturdays At College McHenry County college will offer a study skills seminar on three consecutive Saturdays. Feb. 18. Feb. 25 and March 4. Students will learn con centration skills, speed-reading techniques, how to read something once and remember it, how to take lecture notes, how to become a " better listener, and how to study for and pass exams. The seminar will be led by Mary Ougheltree, who has a MA in reading from Michigan State university.
