Usually when a patient carefully selects a family dentist and always discusses fees before treatments, he can expect to have a long-lasting, good relationship with that dentist. However, even in the best of patient-dentist rela tionships, problems may arise. The first step in such a situation is to let the dentist know that a problem exists, according to a booklet recent ly published by the American Dental Association. Very often a "grievance" turns out to be merely a matter of bad communication between den tist and patient. Most dentists, the Associa tion said, sincerely want to know when patients are dis satisfied with treatment so that they can correct the situation. Even expertly ad ministrated care may fail to achieve expected results, in which case the dentist will want to re-administer treat ment, use an alternate pro cedure or call in a consulting dentist. If the patient and den tist cannot resolve the problem, then the dental society's peer review pro cedures are available to mediate and find a solu tion that is agreeable to both parties. This and other matters important to consumers are explained in the booklet, Now to Become a Wise Dental Consumer. A free copy may be obtained by writing the American Dental Association, Dept. An un married girl is like a baseball player--always trying to turn a single into a double. She didn't want to marry him for his money, but she couldn't figure out any other way to get it.
