STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Reports Enthusiastic From Club Fashion Show Chairmen While members of the Town and Country Newcomers club worked industriously on decorations for the April fashion show, "Sugar and Spice - Everything Nice," club of ficers made several important announcements to the mem bership at the recent February general meeting at St. Paul's Episcopal church, McHenry. Ways and Means co- chairman Ruth DeVries reported at length about the upcoming April 20 club fund- raising event whose sponsors include McHenry apparel shops. Members are par ticularly encouraged to invite friends and acquaintances for dessert and fashions at 7:30 p.m., April 20, at Chapel Hill Country club. Other committee chairmen working on this project include Chris Sonnichsen, Shari Weak- man, Judy Wilcox, and Helen Borland. Mrs. Borland reported the acquisition of a jazz ensemble from the music department of McHenry high school as a feature of the evening's en tertainment. Mrs. DeVries concluded her report by asking the cooperation of all members in volunteering for and support of - this club event. She reminded all that ticket sales will benefit the community organization, F.I.S.H. President Sandy Howell had called the meeting to order and greeted members and guests. Mrs. Howell announced the appointment by the executive board of Chris Sonnichsen as secretary-treasurer to replace Karen Rae Purcell who is moving to Texas. Social chairman Shari Weak- man reported on the success of the January progressive din ner, and explained that the previously scheduled couples' bowling night had been changed to Saturday, March 11 at Palace bowl at 7 p.m. because of the number of mid winter tournaments at local bowling establishments. Also tentatively scheduled on the social calendar is a pre- Easter "Donuts with the Easter World Of "Have" Nots" Revealed To Bunny" set for Saturday, March 18 at 9:30 a.m., at Faith Presbyterian church on Chapel Hill road in McHenry. The next "Tea, Talk, and Sew" will be held at the home of Pat Pr- zetacznik March 16. Club President Mrs. Howell introduced speaker Leith Henning, the 1978 president of the Mental Health Resource league for McHenry county. Mrs. Henning explained the structure and scope of her organization and urged members of the Newcomers to join the membership involved in such activities as Country Couture and Fair Diddley. Last year, Mrs. Henning noted, the league raised over $12,000 for funding of related mental health projects. For further details on any club activity or information about joining the Town and Coutnry Newcomers club, contact Mrs. Keith Sonnichsen. Any residents new to the area are always welcome at club meetings and are encouraged to attend club activities. And Have U.M.W. The United Methodist Wqmen of the First United Methodist church of McHenry met Thursday, Feb. 16 at noon and were served a light luncheon by the Marcia Mary Ball circle. The program was a film strip on CROP "One Planet, Two Worlds" from a documentary film "Five Minutes to Mid night". It depicted life in a world of "have" and "have nots". One-half of the people in the world go to bed hungry and a great majority of the babies born never live to reach adulthood. Pat Esposito exhibited some kimonas, quilts, receiving blankets, and belly-bands being made by women of the church to be serft overseas and suggested that anyone having useable soft material that can be used for making these layettes bring them to the next meeting. Bias tape is needed, thread, and materials for backing for quilts. Receiving blankets can be made from good used blanket sheets. The material does not essentially have to be new, but must be clean and in good condition. The general meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. by President Patricia Esposito, with a prayer. The secretary read the minutes of the January general meeting, which were approved and accepted as read. In the absence of the treasurer, Vice-President Marilyn Haines read the treasurer's report, which was approved and filed for audit. All 1977 pledges were paid in full. President Esposito read the proposed 1978 budget, which met unanimous approval. Members were reminded that the World Day of Prayer will be March 3 at 9:30 a.m., at the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church in McHenry. As the March 16 general meeting is just before Easter, President Esposito suggested having for the program an appropriate skit. The May 18 general meeting is tentatively scheduled to be a Mother and Daughter banquet, in the evening, with an ap propriate program for both adults and children. Aprikl4 and 15 are tentatively scheduled for the spring rummage sale. Get well cards were signed by all for Clara Scholl, Helen Creamer, and a friendship card for Mildred Peterson. Inasmuch as a quilt top is available, a quilting frame is needed so several of the members are going to check in to securing the proper size and type frame. Bea Nuziard gave the meditations, which were very interesting and inspiring. Pat Esposito mentioned the NOW HEAR THIS!' TOP DECK HAVE YOU TRIED EM YET? MON. thru FRI.
