While it seems most of the 187 in attendance realize the dues must be increased, the discussion was mostly against the amount of the raise. President Rahn recognized members who wished to speak on the issue, some pro and some con, but after much discussion and talk, questions and answers, the vote was against the resolution. Another resolution will have to be made, and read at the next meeting, at which time detailed figures will also be given on the cost of operating the club during 1977. Many members felt a more reasonable increase would be more acceptable. Monday evening, Feb. 27, was the first meeting of the McHenry Senior Citizens club at their new location, the V.F.W. haU at 3002 West Route 120. President Henry Rahn had called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. The pledge of allegiance to the flag was recited in unison, followed by a moment of silence in reverence for member Edward Usedom who died Feb. 24. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by secretary Marjorie Conklin, and were accepted and ap proved as read. Members were reminded that Mr. Ryan, Lake county Director of R.T.A. and Mrs. Van Sells, R..T.A. director for McHenry county, will be at the Walk-In center at the Moose Lodge March 9 to explain plans for the R.T.A. in McHenry county. At the present time there are no facilities, so it should be very interesting to hear what plans are being considered. Everyone is welcome to attend the 1 p.m. meeting to hear them speak, to make suggestions, or to ask questions. Due to the resignation of Frances Bonelli, Mrs. Esther Heard was appointed program chairlady, with Mrs. Bertha Quinn as the co-chairlady. Mrs. Heard has recently been hospitalized, so during her convalescence Mrs. Quinn will be in charge of the programs. Mrs. Quinn reported the March 13 meeting program will be given by a representative of the Mental Health clinic entitled "Developing a Positive Self Image". • John Doerr, chairman of. tours, is on vacation, so Mrs. Louise Giel reminded members that there are still some reservations available for the Shrine circus Thursday, March 16. The buses will leave McHenry at 5:30 p.m. Please contact Mrs. Frank Giel at once to make reservations. Mrs. Giel also suggested that members who are interested in a trip to the Field museum to see the "Peru Exhibit" should sign up with her, and then as soon as Mr. Doerr returns he will make arrangements for such a trip if there are enough interested. Also, please sign up with Mrs. Giel if interested in going to Drury Lane North sometime in April. Mrs. Ruth Fradell, loop bus chairlady, told about the monthly loop bus trips par ticularly so the new members would know that there is a trip the second Wednesday of each month to the Chicago loop. The bus leaving McHenry at 8:45 a.m. with arrival at Marsahll Field's main entrance at about 10 a.m.; re-loading at Field's main entrance for the return trip at 3 p.m., and arriving back in McHenry about 4:15 p.m. This is a very convenient way to go to the loop, and very inexpensive, with no parking troubles. Call Mrs. R.A. Fradell as there are still a few reservations available on the March 8 bus. Mrs. Charlotte Wons reported six new members joining at this meeting. The new members were introduced and received a warm welcome, and were advised that they were to be "first" in the refreshment line. James Jansen reported thirty-seven senior citizens were in the drivers refresher course that recently ended. Another series will be an nounced in the very near future. Certificates of recognition are to be presented to the coordinator and in structors of these courses in the near future by the Secretary of State's office. James Jansen also requested that all senior citizens who were in the last group contact him and give him their Illinois license number, as this in formation is needed and was not included in the information given at the time of the classes. Mr. Jansen can be reached at his home. James Zednik, bowling chairman, asked the bowlers to please get their reservations in for the annual bowling banquet, to be held April 27 at the John Evans inn on Route 14 at Crystal Lake. This will be quite a gala event with a good or chestra for dancing. He wants to be sure all bowlers' reser vations are in before opening up reservations for non- bowlers. Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary were sung to members celebrating these events. Mrs. Quinn introduced the program with Signa Wright at the piano and Bill Molinaire to lead the sing-along. Song sheets were passed out and the membership enjoyed singing some of the old timers. Regreshments were then served.
