Lakeland Park & Lakeland Shores Sharon Gacek Ann# Moore 3853777 385-6448 Apathy Keeps Four Board Seats Vacant The Lakeland Park Property Owners association met last week and a report was given by the nominating committee. The committee does not have one new candidate. There are a lot of people in our subdivision and someone must care enough to run for office. There are many rumors flying around the area, but no one shows up at the meeting to complain. If you don't like the way your board is doing things, come to the monthly meetings and let them know about it. Better yet, why not run for office. The board would love to have new faces, and they have four positions to fill. Harold Bowlin is running for reelection this time and they need other names on the ballots. The only requirement to get on the board is that you are a paid member of die association. Why hot do something with your com plaints, nominate yourself by calling Lloyd Walter, David Gende, Mrs. Roger Lasko, Mr. or Mrs. Richard Waiinski, Fred Kuptis or Bruce Warren. Anne Moore is the new clerk for the association. If you have any questions about the association you may reach Anne at the above number on the column heading between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The district attorney's office is taking complaints about the water. We do not have the name for this column but we will print It tn next week's column. If you are really having problems With your water, call Mrs. Harold Bowlin and she can tell you who to call. Don't forget about April 2, the date of the annual meeting which will begin promptly at 2 p.m. at the community house, 1717 N. Sunset. WOMAN'S CLUB NEWS Once again it is time for the regular monthly meeting of the Lakeland Park Woman's club. Prizes will be awarded to the winners and all children are encouraged to design an Easter bonnet. Refreshments will be served and of course, there will be many eggs to be found by everyone. WINTERKILL The Chicago newspapers recently printed an article on winter kUl and the problems that mainly occur on shallow lakes. Even the television is giving this problem full coverage. McCullom lake was men tioned in the newspaper along with Lily Lake, Warrior, and Wilderness lakes at Moraine Hills state park as endangered lakes in this area. As was stated in previous columns the cause of winter kill is the heavy snow that prevents sunlight from reaching un derwater plants that give off the oxygen that is needed by the fish. When many fish die, there is an unbalance of the lake and hopefully by restocking the lake the is It la costly to restock the lake every year, so let's hope the fish survive and that the winter kill is only as bad as last years. LONDON FUNG Bill and Pat Buhrman had a fantastic seven-day trip recently. The Buhrman's with Pat's sister, Susin Walin, thoroughly enjoyed their trip to London, England. They were served breakfast in bed every morning at the Royal Lan caster hotel overlooking Hyde park. On Sunday they attended church at Westminster Abbey and saw the Crown Jewels far the Tower of London which is celebrating its 900 anniversary this year. Very impressive was Hampton court which was the palace of King Henry the Eighth and his six wives. Bill, Pat and Sue saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace and later dined at the posh Cafe Royal. One of the highlights of the trip was Harrod's a famous and fabulous London department store. Actor Anthony Quinn bumped into Sue while shop ping at Harrod's Travel around London was done on the "tube". That's the name of the subway service in London. Pat said "it was a very simple way Of getting anywhere that you wanted to go in London". The pubs in London with their warm fireplaces and highly polished wood bars left you with a very cozy feeling. Their favorite pub was Archer's. The big sound in London these days is that of the late Buddy Holly, and Pat felt like she was bade in her high school days when she saw girls dressed in full skirts over crinoline slips, with bobby sox and ponytails, and the young men wore pin striped suits, no jeans. The weather was about 50 degrees, with a rain shower every day to help water the crocus and hyacinths that were in full bloom. What a wonderful way to rid oneself of the winter blahs! Voluntary Conservation Gov. James R. Thompson recently said he was pleased with voluntary electricity conservation measures being taken in Illinois and urged all citizens to redouble their ef forts. "The latest round of coal strike negotiations has broken down and the situation is becoming increasingly serious," Thompson said. "Most Illinoisans still have warm homes, ample electridty and are still employed. But if we don't conserve electricity, that situation may change drastically," he said. THURSDAY. MARCH 9th I ARC,!
