Bolger, president, McHenry State bank, was elected second vice-president of the Independent Bankers Association of America Wednesday, March 8, at the closing session of IBAA's forty - eighty annual convention at the Diplomat in Hollywood, Fla. Bolger is scheduled to become president at IBAA's fiftieth annual convention in San Francisco. He has previously served IBAA as Illinois director for three terms and has been a member of the former Competing Financial Institutions committee, the former Bank Study committee, and the Federal Legislation committee, as well as the Resolutions committee. An organizer and former director of Independent Community Banks in Illinois, he is also a past president of the McHenry- Boone County Bankers federation and was treasurer of the city of McHenry for twenty- five years. Bom on a farm near McHenry, Bolger has spent his entire career in banking. After graduating from McHenry high school in 1941, he joined McHenry State bank, where, with the exception of a three- year stint in the U.S. Army during World War II, he has since been employed. He was advanced successively to assistant cashier in 1948, cashier in 1958, vice-president- cashier in 1967, executive vice- president in 1973, and president-chief executive of­ ficer in 1974, the position he currently holds. In addition, Bolger has been a director of the bank since 1959. The Independent Bankers Association of America, a national organization dedicated to the preservation of America's system of locally owned and controlled banks, had some 2,200 registrants who attended the three-day meeting at the diplomat hotel. Among the positions taken by the delegates were those in defense of the family farm, small businessmen and the smaller banks of the country that are dedicated to meeting the financial needs of their com­ munities. IBAA and its members believe that independent, community banks are better able to serve their communities than institutions that are members of giant multibank systems that are not locally owned and operated and thus may not meet local needs. The association also believes that credit sustains the nation's economy, and that banking as well as government is best served by diffused power. IBAA is convinced that the public interest is best served by many units competing in the marketplace. The association membership includes 7,300 banks in forty- one states east of the Rockies. A sister organization, Western Independent Bankers, serves nine western states. Opera Theatre Presents "Old Maid And Thief' Chicago Opera Repertory theatre announces its first production of its second season Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Old Maid and the Thief" will be performed March 31 and April 1 in the Woodstock Opera House.
