Being unable to use the many group pictures sent in, a decision was made to discon tinue all league groups except championship teams. Pictures takes by our staff photographers of athletes on the high school level will be selected as to their importan ce. Individual pictures of various sports will be appraised as to their newsworthy value and available space. It was a flood of group pic tures last year that made this decision by the management necessary. Reilly scored more than half, 22 of the teams 37 points in their losing 40-37 effort against St. John's. Reilly was also selected as a senior All-Star in the tourney. He is a sophomore on the Rock Valley college team and averaged 18.5 points per game during the season. At Rock Valley, he was named on the second team of both the All Conference and All-State for junior colleges in Illinois. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD St. John's won the championship with a 40-37 win. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD EARL WALSH So I Hear SPORTS EDITOR The primary election brought out all the old ballyhoo we have heard for years. Some blasted their opponents with no regard for decency. Some made big promises heard for years. Some promised the earth and a slice of the moon. Taxpayers couldn't hold up many years with the big spenders. But, there are good men and good women in office and others who want to serve with honor. They deserve respect which is so lacking in this day and age. Just glanced at an old issue of the Plaindealer with April 9, 1975 as the dateline. Would you believe? Coffee was advertised - 2 pounds for $1.79. The same brand as of today is $6.59. Where do we go from here? Coach Ray Meyer, ever the gentleman, has recovered from the shock of defeat handed his DePaul team by mighty Notre Dame and says he will now follow the Irish and pull for them to win. This is usually the time of year when we struggle to get enough news to make up a sports page. It is that in bet ween season. It doesn't seem like this year will be so bad. Spring sports are on the way. Hiey are hard at practice at the high school while others are sending in news of meetings, plans and anxiety. Looking through Alvina's high school year book, I saw a picture of Earl (Big Earl) Dowell with a mustache pasted on for his part in a class play. Must look at that one again. It struck my funny bone. One weatherman says it will rain on Friday, one says Saturday and another says Sunday. Nobody wants to believe the Sunday man. Easter should be a bright, sunny day. You don't see the Easter bonnets of yesteryear. It was the time for new plumage and fruit on top for Mom, while daughter wore a sailor number with ribbons hanging down the back. Men didn't always have a new lid. Some had the old number cleaned and blocked for fifty cents - good as new. We didn't eat candy during the holy season of Lent, then tore into the saved up pieces when the forty days and forty nights came to a glorious end. The Easter bunny still hiSet* colored eggs about the house and yard for the kids to raice like young colts in search of the hidden treasure. That was the only kind of bunny we ever heard of until the Playboy clubs came into existence. Easter is a glorious day. It is my sincere wish that you will be blessed with good health, the strength to carry your burdens, and a full measure of hap piness. Locals Win Events In Special Olympics McHenry county residents came away from the pool event of the Third annual Nor theastern Illinois Special Olympic games, held at Waubonsee Valley high school on Wednesday, March 15, with fifteen medals. Winners of gold medals in these events, where participation is as important as winning, will advance to the state games which will be held June 2-4 at Illinois State university. One was triple medal winner. Two were double medal win ners. Two-hundred thirty-seven athletes from Kane, Kendall, McHenry, Lake and DuPage counties participated in this year's pool events.
