Village of McHenry Shores Jude La Francis 385-5067 Omaha Visit With Former Village Family We recently returned from a vacation to Omaha, Neb., where we visited Jim and Janet Rees and their family. The trip was fantastic; their weather was in the 70's and 80's the entire time. Jim and Janet have a truly beautiful new home and the area in which they live is both picturesque and peaceful. They live near Boy's Town which we toured one day ; it was an in teresting ur and we were happy that we decided to see it. The city of Omaha is very hilly; we had assumed that all 'of Nebraska was just flat farmland and we were pleasantly surprised. Jim and Janet really enjoy their new home and their new surroundings, and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip and our visit with them. The Rees' extend a welcome to all of their friends to visit them and see how nice Nebraskans can be. NUMBER PLEASE Recently many village residents went to the telephone to make a call and wondered why the phone was not working. You were not alone: For more , than 30 hours the phones throughout the entire village were not able'to be used. The phone repairmen worked late into the cold and bitter night to find the cause and restore the phones to good working order. Chinooks bring weather so warm flowers bud in January. According to weather experts, chinook air is so warm it can jump the temperature 40 degrees in less than ten minutes. In addition, chinook conditions are so dry a foot of snow can evaporate overnight. P h y s i c a l examinations and medical problems will be handled by a doctor and nurse. The municipal building will be the waiting room. There will be a reasonable charge per visit. Bring yourself and your medical problem to the municipal building April 12 for medical care at a minimum cost. VOTING Citizens will determine the fate of the McHenry high schools this Saturday, April 8. Whether our high school students will continue using two schools, or if East campus will be closed as an educational facility, will be our decision. How many of us will be making our wishes known by voting? After the polls are closed, let us not bemoan the solution if we did not put our "X" on a ballot. AND MORE VOTING ... Tuesday, April 11, at the Lakemoor municipal building, 12 to 7 p.m., the trustees of the McHenry Nunda library board will be voted on. Seven members are up for election. Incumbents are: President Susan La Croix Brindise, Treasurer Karen Clewis, and Trustees Joan Adams and Kathleen Gosell. Louise Hipwell, Karen Johanson and Edna Mueller are the new members to be voted on. Wouldn't it be exciting if more people turned out for this election than for the primaries? COUNTRY MUSIC TIME Irma Gunther, Margaret Hatch, son Mike Hatch, Dick Hyatt and a group from their plant, flew to Nashville, Tenn., for an exciting weekend. Saturday night was spent with the country and western singers at the "Grand Old Opree". Also visited and en joyed were the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Wax museum, and the tours of the singing stars' homes. Dick had his picture taken with Miss Teenage Illinois, but didn't have time to wait for a copy. We will probably be hearing a lot more foot stom- pin' music from across the lake because of this fun trip. CELEBRATIONS James Chambers shares something besides his last name with his daughter, April. They both have birthdays in April, father on the sixth and daughter on the seventh. This is an effort to give quicker help to those who jieed it. Also being planned for our senior citizens is a seminar Friday, June 13. GOD BLESS by JOSEPH COOLS staff psychologist... from th« Family Scrvic* and Mental Health Clinic of McHenry County WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, 1978 Rev. Hlllebrand To Be Installed In Friday Rite (Editor's note: This is another in a series of especially written articles for McHenry county readers. Joseph Cools is a psychologist on the Family Service and Community Mental Health center staff. This article is "Coping - The Pecking Or der.") If a man is harassed con tinually at work, sooner or later he feels that he must explode. Not wanting to get fired, he is reluctant to express any of hi^J filings of anger towards his boss or fellow workers. The more he is harrassed and humiliated, the more he feels like striking out at something or someone. Finally, when frustration tolerance has been reached or surpassed, he may take his difficulties home, not in a constructive way, but destructively. In the same way that he was badgered and berated, he abuses his wife verbally, and even sometimes physically. As tragic as this situation is, often the story does not end here. The man's wife has feelings too, and after being berated and abused by the husband, her frustration tolerance can also be reached and surpassed. Many such women will in turn „ express their feelings in exactly the same way to the children, verbally and physically abusing them. Our tragedy ends here, right? Wrong! Children have feelings too, and react even more strongly to abuse and rejection from people who have the ultimate power over them. Thus, the oldest child may choose to express his own feelings of frustration and anger on a younger brother or sister or playmate. Unfortunately, the cruelty of the story does not even end here. When we get to the bot tom of the "pecking order", the youngest or weakest child looks for someone even more defenseless than he to vent his anger on. Sometimes parents seek counseling for a young child because the child is abusive to a family pet, a cat or a dog. Such parents are usually at a loss to explain why their child has such a "cruel" streak in him. The answer is often obvious in the extreme. Next: Old Age and Senility. KfcV. * NOLAN J.
