Amettis, 23, of Richmond is one of four candidates seeking election to one of two vacancies on the County College Board of Trustees. Amettis, who graduated from MCC, served as a student trustee on the board from 1974 to 1976 and was the only student representative ever to be elected twice. It was during this time that the college began construction and initial occupation of the permanent campus. Amettis attended Sangamon State university for iv2 years and is presently employed as the public relations officer for the Easter Seal Society in McHenry county. He supports the proposal of College President Dr. Harris, to form standing committees headed by board members, as a means of improving communication between the college and the board. Amettis would also like to see the faculty represented on the board. CHARLES A. GAUER Charles A. Gauer, 25, of Woodstock is another candidate seeking election to the County College Board of Trustees. The twenty-five year resident of McHenry county is a 1977 graduate of MCC. He was the student representative on the board during 1976-77 and has been working at the MCC Veteran's office since 1976. He was selected to serve on the internal Presidential Selection committee in the fall of 1977 when the position was vacated by Dr. Davis. Gauer said his job at the college would not put him in a conflict. He works at the college, not for the college. His job is a CETA Veteran's work experience position and is paid by the county board, not the college. However, he intends to quit the twenty-hour a week job if he is elected. As the student member of the board, Gauer was not allowed to vote, but did take part in all discussion, including executive sessions. WILLIAM T. RYAN William T. Ryan is a candidate for a third consecutive term on the County college board of trustees. Dr. Ryan, who has lived in Crystal Lake since 1964, is a dentist and has office facilities in Crystal Lake. He is a member of the Crystal Lake Knights of Columbus and the McHenry County Dental association. Ryan feels that the ever increasing demand for education must be met, with a very careful approach aimed at maintaining the present tax rate for the college. As a present member of the board, he has worked with the administration to consolidate the polling places. He worked on the Salary Negotiations committee, the Bid committee and the Senior Citizens program. Ryan's primary goal is to operate the college within a balanced budget. By doing so, he says the board of trustees avoids raising tuition, a primary concern of students. ROBERT J. WEIDNER Robert J. Weidner is seeking reelection to the County College Board of Trustees. The lifelong resident of Harvard has been a member of the board since 1971. While on the board, Weidner served on the Bid committee and theSalEiry Negotiating committee. He is presently the secretary of the board of trustees and has held the position for five years. Self-employed for twenty-seven years as a dairy and grain farmer, he has now turned the active farming business over his eldest son. Weidner is now engaged in the real estate business. When he came on the board, MCC was housed in rented facilities. Since that time the college has acquired a site, built a campu., and increased the quality and quantity of course offerings while keeping a balanced budget. The idea of public seminars, beneficial to the business community, has his support. Weidner would like to see this program continued and expanded.
