There goes a police car. So I followed (at a reasonable rate of speed). The officer hadn't heard of the dinner. That's when I knew .Richmond isn't a small town anymore. By Dick Rabbitt The highly regarded North Chicago Warhawks defeated the Warriors in a dual track meet Monday at McCracken field by the score of 89 to 52. It was a case of just too much speed by the visitors as they won the 440 and mile relays, and swept the 100 yd dash and 330 low hurdles. Kevin Weisenberger of the Warriors won both the mile and two mile events, and Mike Burman won the 880 in the fine time of 2:02.9. Tim Hughes won the pole vault with a vault of 12'6", and A1 Reinboldt won the shot at 47'11". The McHenry frosh-sophs put on a fine display and beat the Warhawks 75 to 66 in a thriller that went down to the last event. Giagonini won both the triple jump, and long jump for the Warriors. Haley won the discus, Szumlas won the 440 yd dash, and Wright won the mile. McH - 75- N.C. - 66 Chicago Race Attracts Two McHenry Women Rt. 31,1 Mil* North of 120 McHonry, III. \ (815)385-0999 Two McHenry women were among the 3,000 contestant's in last Sunday's "Bonnie Bell" 10,000 meter race for women at Lincoln Park in Chicago. Margie Boyer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Boyer, 1304 Old Bay road, and Karen Pepping, 3105 W. Virginia, braved rain and temperatures in the 40's to compete in the largest women's sporting event ever held in this country. Heather Bilandic, wife of Chicago's mayor, sounded the gong to officially start the race while the mayor was stationed at the four mile marker to encourage the competitors. Ms. Boyer, a senior at Western Illinois university, finished the 6.2 mile race in a time of 43 minutes. The, winner of the race, Beverly Roland of Peoria, another WIU student, finished in 37 minutes, 10 seconds. This was the first competitive race for Ms. Boyer, who has been running for three years and runs 35 miles a week in a training program. She had injured her ankle two weeks earlier, but participated in the race despite her heavily taped ankle. Ms. Pepping finished with a time of 57 minutes, sixteen minutes behind the winner of her age group. She ran her first half-mile in July and now runs 20-30 miles a week. Both runners experienced the excitement of competing with the top women runners in the country. Gayle Barron, Atlanta, winner of this year's Boston Marathon and Kim Merritt, Racine, winner of last year's Boston Marathon, were both participants in the "Bonnie Bell." STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD Mundelein Nine Stops Warrior Stream, 6-2 By Dick Rabbitt Coach Ken Swanson's McHenry high Warriors had their eleven game winning streak stopped at Mundelein Tuesday, losing to the Mustangs 6 to 2. It tied a record set back in 1970. The Warriors jumped off to a quick 1 to 0 lead in the first inning, but a two run fourth and four run fifth sealed the doom of the Warriors. Bobby Sharp gave up 13 hits in a losing cause. Tomorrow the Warriors travel to Lake Forest for a doubleheader in the North Suburban.
