The Grenadiers easily outclassed the field as they totaled 95 points to runnerup Naperville North's 69. The Warriors finished eighth with 29 points. Sixteen schools participated, with only Waukegan East failing to show up for the meet. St. Charles broke three records, winning the four-mile relay, two-mile relay, and the 720 yard low hurdle shuttle relay. Naperville North broke two records the mile relay and the sprint medley relay. Naperville North broke two records the mile relay and the sprint medley relay. Elk Grove broke the rec6rd in the 440 relay and Lake Forest won the high hurdle shuttle relay. The competition was keen, the weather beautiful, and the meet well run. What more can one say, as usual the McHenry high staff did an excellent job of running off the relays. Head coach Dan Boland, and his able assistants, Bill Day, Brian Wilson, and Earl Kyle, along with Athletic Director Bill Blankenhorn and a host of volunteers are to be com mended for a splendid job. 'Tis much better to give than to receive--and it's deductible. The trouble with some people who give until it hurts is that they are so sensitive to pain. Next came Herman Kreutzer. At our next stop, the first person I ran into was "Biff" Meyer - another of those kind. They made our day -- miserable. But, I was glad to meet and greet their wives. The McHenry Choral Club dipped into the past for some songs that took our fancy. Judging from the smiles and light hearted spirit of the crowd after the performance, they must have liked what they saw and heard. One of the beauties of spring has loomed before us. The dandelions are smiling at us with that defiant, you-can't-kill- me look. BASEBALL PICKUPS: "Smoky" Burgess ran up a total of 144 pinch hits in his career for a record. Outfielder Don Demeter played 266 consecutive major league games without com mitting an error. Circumstances dictate a short column this time. Watch out when I get my second wind. SHOT PUT STRENGTH - and the above three Warriors captured a fourth place finish out of sixteen schools competing in the annual McHenry Relays last Friday. A1 Reinboldt (top photo) led his team mates with a toss of 51*11%". Tom Wollert (left) hit the 40*3y<i" mark, while Gary Parsons (right) threw for a distance of 42' . Their team total was 134*3". STAFF PHOTOS-WAYNE GAYLORD It is nice to look out the kit chen window before breakfast and see green grass all around instead of that white covering we endured for months. Bart Yegge passed away suddenly this week. Every kid who ever knew him loved him. That is a tribute not all men have earned. Father Clarence Thennes was honored lit a shin-dig Sunday night as relatives and friends gathered 'round to celebrate his 40th anniversary as a priest. Father Clarence stood up, looked everybody straight in the eye, and told a fish story that he claimed was "true". True or false, that story should rate high on the list for a prize in that annual tall story contest which originated in Burlington, Wis. Dark clouds hung over us on Sunday. The White Sox kicked another game away while the Cubs were winning. The Warriors bounced back Teiberrf from their defeat at the hands Mrozd.h. of Mundelein, to defeat Lake Thomas lb Zurich 6 to 2. Bobby Hansen Grevess was the winner, walking two, Frantzcf and striking out 6. Pat Teuber and Tim Frantz each had 2 hits Totals to lead the attack. The twin victory enabled the Warriors to take over the lead in the North Suburban with a 7 and 2 record. Zion split a pair with Crystal Lake, and Libertyville did likewise with Crown. Those two along with Mundelein are all 6 and 2 in the conference. In the opener for the Warriors Barry "Bear" Paulsen won his sixth game of the season, giving up four hits, walking one, and fanning nine in the shutout. John Meyers with 2 hits led the attack in the first game. In the nightcap, led by Mark Rogers' three runs batted in, and a triple by John Meyers, Dave Covalt coasted to a 9 to 5 win Rogers also knocked in a run in the opener, giving him four for the day.
