On April 28, I attended, along with thirty-five other con cerned citizens, the ZBA meeting regarding Woodcreek subdivision. "Mr. Green (attorney and part owner of Woodcreek) stated that there is 'no rationale for the 132 ft. minimum width on a 40,000 square foot lot (just under 1 acre) with wells and septics (not on city sewer and water). What a slap in the face to ow elty government. Of course there is a reason for the 132 feet - in fact, our neighbors in Crystal Lake and Woodstock have set their minimum at 150 feet for the same very good reason-good planning! "ZBA Member Don Williams said he thought that Woodcreek was restricting itself by reducing minimum lot widths. The petitioner acknowledged that it would be architectually difficult. A rambling ranch costs. A second charge of battery was not prosecuted. Richard K. Roberts, Woodstock, guilty of battery, fined $50 and costs and guilty of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, fined $50 and costs. style home, for instance, would be a "very very difficult thing to do'. (Why ask for problems?) "You have to begin to wonder whether by cutting the width of each lot 25 percent he isn't picking up an extra lot out of every four. The petitioner repeatedly said he would get the same density either way. There is nothing in the or dinance to prevent him from cutting down his two and three- acre parcels or bulldozing the trees to accomplish this den sity. "The petitioner himself has acknowledged serious problems this variance would invite. Why in the world would McHenry want them? The original concept of this sub division was for upgrading- permitting reduction of lot width would be deteriorating. "McHenry is 'hot property' according to realtors all over Illinois. Whether we want the growth or not it is coming. Therefore, these are times of critical decision for our city leaders. Woodcreek is unique because this stunningly beautiful land is about all that is left of the great oak forests of the midwest and McHenry's opportunity to have a most valuable land asset-it MUST be used as a PLUS for our community. Beef Blade Steaks Make Tempting Cookout Treat Beef blade steaks are an ex cellent and economical grill choice. Costing considerably less than loin cuts, these steaks from the beef chuck are some what less tender. But mari nating the steaks provides op portunity to add a comf mentary flavor and has a derizing effect. fi For a tasty example of just how good blade steaks can be, try Beef Steaks Mediterran ean. The spicy marinade, sweetened with orange marm alade, gives that good beef fla vor a delicious accent, says Reba Staggs, National Live Stock and Meat Board home economist.
