RTE. 120 McHENRY 385-07 YOUR COMPLETE CAR CARE CENTER McHenry | Country Club § By John Busscher Playing superb golf the team of Lloyd Kuehn and Tom Burke defeated Tom Utterback and Bob Schmaling in the red flight finals of the 2 man aggregate tournament played at the club on Sunday, May 21. White flight winners were Gary and Don Gerstad over Jack Smith and John Nolan. Incidentially Gary is playing the best golf of his young career and all indications are that he will be a threat in the upcoming club championship. In the blue flight, Bill (NFL) Swanson and Leo Smith beat Kurt Knaack and Jim Kenton in a closely contested match. Tennessee dog flight tour nament winner was the team of Chuck Lynch, Dick Weber, Jack Smithson and John Christensen, with five teams tied for second place. "Hustler" Wattles' team had a go at it but poor putting was their downfall. The husband-wife golf outing, ably run by Sue and Tim Martin, Beth and Bob Jemiola, and Barb and Lloyd Kuehn was won by Lloyd Smith and Liz Nolan. Congratulations are in order to the winners of the various events. The two day Memorial Day tournament will be held at the club on Sunday and Monday, May 28-29 with the first round of the Directors' Tournament starting on Sunday, June 4. Warriors Win County Track Meet By Dick Rabbitt Trailing after the field events, the McHenry High Warriors of Dan Boland turned on the power to win going away in the Annual County Meet held at beautiful Jacobs High School last Monday evening. The Warriors outscored Woodstock 154 to 125 in what turned out to be a two team race. All was not going well for the Warriors in the early stages. Marengo, fast becoming a track power along with Cary Grove, had the Warrior coaches worried, as they began to build up a lead after the field events were completed. Mike Burman won the 3,000 meters the first of his two wins breaking his own record in the process, but still the Warriors trailed. When Chris Nowell won the 110 high hurdles by a nose, it seemed to send a spark throughout the Warrior camp. The 800 meter run sent the Warriors into first place as Kevin Weisenberger picked up a second, Tim Byers a fourth and Wayne Besserud a fifth. The 3,200 meter relay team of Besserud, Byers, Vince Lin- nane and Weisenberger sped to a easy win over Marengo, and the rest was anticlimatic. Burman also broke his own record in the 1,500 meter with a winning time of 4:11.7. A1 Reinboldt won the discus and Mike Williams won the long jump. Crystal Lake won the sophomore meet scoring 170 points. The young Warriors were fourth with 74 points. Netters End Season With 17 - 6 Record Coach Gary Gray's tennis team defeated both Cary Grove and Wauconda by the score of 4 to 1 to run their dual meet record to 17 and 6 for the season. In the Barrington district last week, Phil Kent lost a three set heartbreaker to Mark Findley of Barrington 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in his bid to qualify for the state meet. Sophomore Tim Sabatka lost a 7-5,6-4 match to Tom Surrock of Antioch. In doubles action Steve Williams and Mike Gende defeated Mundelein 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 and then lost to Barrington's Talbot and Bartling 6-0, 6-0. Rich Backs and Rich Sompel were upset by Ritcherland and Rezin of Antioch 6-4, 6-3. McHenry vs. Wauconda Singles No. 1: Phil Kent vs. Chuck Steiner, McH., 6-4, 6-4. Williams also captured a third in the 100 meter dash. Marty Deener finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.95 meters. STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD . Last week a Cub fan said of his team: "They ain't doin' so good." On Tuesday morning the standings showed his team to be in second place only one half game behind Philadelphia. Let me say to that Cub fan: "That ain't bad!" If the Cubs had made a catcher out of Larry Bittner (.298 average last year), they would be in first place. No charge for that advice. Going up the church steps, we head a voice calling out loudly - - and it wasn't a voice from hesfren. Big John Busscher had stopped his car to question if we were going to church to pray for our White Sox. »: Our faith in prayer knows no bounds if you add a few good base hits. > Those Yankees are loaded with more than money. Dick Rabbitt's enthusiasm jttver ends so he looks for good These Warriors will be representing McHenry at the IHSA State Track meet Friday and Saturday. A1 Reinboldt (top) and Mike Burman (right) wasted no time in preparing for the meet, as they both won first place finishes in the McHenry County track event Monday. Reinboldt captured a first in the disc with a throw of 45.22 meters, and finished second in the shot put with a distance of 15.14 meters. Burman set a new county record when he completed the 3000 meter run in a time of 8:58.7 to help pace the Warriors to the county championship as they finished with a total of 154 points. So, unless you are an ex ceptional penman, please type or have somebody type the copy you submit. In the newspaper business, it is a sin to misspell a person's name so let's make 'em clear.
