MAY 31. 1V7I PARISH GUESTS-Acolytes of St. Paul's Episcopal parish of McHenry, accompanied by Rev.Arthur McKay, pastor, and John Byers, attended a sung High Mass at Church of the Annunciation of Our Lady, Waukegan, Sunday, May 21. Pictured are three of the boys, Dan Heldt, John Stewart and Bob Boak with the Rev. Edgar F. Wells, rector of the Waukegan church. Rory Fiali and Michael Podpora (not pictured) also enjoyed the service and breakfast afterwards. The Mass commemorated the first Sunday after Pentecost, Trinity Sunday. by JOSEPH COOLS staff psychologist news from the Family Service and Mental Health Clinic of McHenry County (Editor's note: This is another in a series of especially written articles for McHenry county readers. Joseph Cools is a psychologist on the Family Service and Community Mental Health center staff. This article is "Coping - Suicidal Thoughts") There is almost no one who has not thought at one time or another that they would really be better off dead. Usually these feelings come when something has happened that really hurts the person's feelings. The feeling appears to be a combination of "I'm so miserable that dying would be a release from the pain" and "won't you be sorry if something happened to me." These feelings, or "suicidal" thoughts are natural under circumstances of extreme hurt. In this instance the person is not truly suicidal, and the thoughts are more an ex pression of anger and frustration. If, however, the feelings or thoughts persist beyond a very short period of time or seem unconnected with any specific event, professional help is warranted immediately. There is no need to endure these feelings when there is help available that can alleviate the feeling of depression usually in a short period of time. There is a tendency to hold on to the suicidal thoughts, as it does provide a sort of outlet for angry feelings. This is, however, a very unproductive outlet for powerful feelings, and can spiral into an even deeper depression. It is at this point that suicidal thoughts cease to be a product of the will. Whereas, before, the person had control of when he "wanted" to think suicidal thoughts, the deeper the depression the less control he can exert on these feelings. Advice Given For Insect Bites Bright clothing, sweet foods, scented lotions and perfumes attract insects. And victims of bee, wasp, hornet, chigger, tick, spider and scorpion stings often suffer from allergic reactions. For insect bites, Ordie Hogsett, University of Illinois Extension safety specialist, offers this advice. Remove bee, wasp, and hornet stingers by scraping backwards, away from the direction the stinger entered. Hogsett suggests sOothing bites with cold water «i a baking soda paste. See fleptor if an allergic reation occurs. Chiggers leave red itching welts several hours after contact. Putting a heated needle near the tick may make it back out enough to remove, insect with tweezers. Wash and treat tick bits as you would chigger bites, recommends Hogsett.
