Illinois 60014 (815)459-2641 by Estelle Atwell This 5-month-old Irish Setter is the prettiest and nicest we have seen in a long time. She is friendly and affectionate, but not high- strung. Please call Pet Welfare, 385-1771, for adoption information. Warm Weather and Rover Things to do for the dog or cat now that it is summer. 1 Provide plenty of fresh water. Check the water bowl several times a day, fill as needed The drinking water should be changed at least twice daily. If the water bowl is always empty, think about getting a larger one. 2. Rover is outside and is always knocking over his water Get an angel food cake pan. drive a strong stake into the ground and put the cake pan full of water over the stake Put the outside dish in the shade If you aren't home, all day. as a neighbor to check on the dog 3. If you see someone else's dog needs water, do something about it. Cats need fresh drinking water too! Milk should not be used as a substitute. 4. Rover has fleas or ticks. Get a good flea and tick shampoo and bathe Rover. To break the cycle of fleas - bathe twice a week for one month. Flea collars won't make established fleas move out. Cats can be bathed, but use care when handling cats with claws. 5. Rover stays outside. Dogs must be provided shelter from the sun and rain. If you don't have a doghouse at least put Rover where he has shade. Remember, shade moves as the sun gets higher overhead. 6 Mosquitos and heartworm are here. Get Rover checked at the vet's and put hum on a preventative medicine. It takes 8 months before the disease can be detected 7. Rover should not ride in the car during the hot weather, especially if you will be leaving him in it for a while. On a hot day the car, with the windows slightly open, can heat to 120 degrees in a very short time. Rover can't take the heat and can die. McCullom Lake Mary Jo Farrell 344-1575 Confirmed At Methodist Church Citizen Reports The state Conservation Department's chief law en forcement official urged Illinois citizens to report fish and game violations they might observe to the Illinois State Police. "We are using every available means we have to stop poaching and other fish and game violations," the chief said. "Still, there are not enough men to go around. That is why we must rely on the citizens of our state to help us outr' Seek Vandals Responsible For Park Destruction The McCullom Lake village board met Tuesday, May 23, at the beach house, and observed that the new, expensive lights that had been purchased for the beach park have already been broken by vandals. Jf the culprits are caught, their parents will be responsible for replacing the lights, and they were not cheap. The beach is for the use of all the village, and it seems a shame that a few destructive individuals take it upon themselves to ruin the property of the whole village. The village clerk has visitor passes for all residents, so that when friends come to visit and want to park at the beach, they will not be ticketed. If cars are parked at the beach without vehicle stickers or visitor passes, they will be ticketed, and the owner will have to pay a fine. So, stop by the village clerk's house, 4807 W. Mc Cullom Lake road, and pick up your passes. Each household is allowed two passes, and others are available for large parties. Don't forget to renew your boat stickers if you own a boat that goes into our lake or is docked at our beach. The clerk can take care of that for you also. BEACH GALS The Beach Gals plant and bake sale was a huge success largely due to the efforts of co- chairman LaVerne Loewe and Sharon Grutzmacher. All kinds of plants and yummy baked goods were on display for sale, along with some very clever craft items, all donated by Beach Gals and their friends. The next Beach Gals meeting will be held Wednesday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the beach house. All village women are cordially invited to come and look us over. There will be some very exciting (?) news at the meeting. OOPS! Bob Raycraft is 7 years old, and not six. I'm very sorry for the error, and I hope this makes Bobby feel a lot better.
