Senior Citizens9 Art Show Slated The McHenry County Senior Citizens' council presents its first exhibit of students' work. Six classes throughout the county are included in this large showing. The types of paintings vary - landscapes, seascapes,& mountain views, floral studies and portraits. Early in April classes were formed. Five locations were selected to cover the county. To give each senior the best in struction, classes were held down to ten or twelve students. Progress was so good that this show was planned to allow everyone to see what was done in eight or ten lessons. Many had a brush in their hand for the first time in April - others had some experience, but all benefitted from this unique opportunity. The show opens at noon Saturday, June 10. The Woodstock Opera House is hosting this exhibit through the following week daily from noon until 5 p.m., with special hours, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday, June 17, the day of the Senior Citizens' Hobby fair in the Woodstock square. Tenth Anniversary Marks 700 In Club Membership The McHenry Senior Citizens club meeting Monday, May 22, was a very special and memorable one, as it marked the tenth anniversary of the club. The invocation was given by Pastor Arthur M. Knudsen of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church of McHenry, after which the members enjoyed dinner and a beautifully decorated anniversary cake. When President Henry Rahn called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., he introduced the past presients of the club who were in attendance Cyril Allen and his wife, Kenneth Bowsher and his wife, Chester Conrad and his wife, and Ralph Lockerbie and his wife. Group June 2 JUNE MEETING St. Elizabeth chapter of Nairn, an organization for widowed Catholics with dependent children, will have a wine tasting party following its monthly meeting Saturday, June 10, at 8 p.m. in the com munity room of St. Mary's rectory, 390 Fulton street, Elgin. A family picnic will be held June 25. For further in formation call 312-741-2629. The T.H.E.O.S. group will meet for a potluck dinner and meeting Thursday, June 22, at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Mae Stinespring, 3329 Bay View lane. The hostess suggests members bring swim wear. • The May T.H.E.O.S. meeting was well attended. The group had dinner at a local restaurant and then returned to the church for an evening of fellowship. "To Help Each Other Smile" is the motto of this non- denominational group, com posed of widows, (widowers are also very welcome). Meetings are once a month with the group dining together at local restaujants and then returning to the First United Methodist church for an evening of fellowship. Such a group is very helpful in combatting loneliness, sadness, insecurity, problems, and readjustments which have to be faced when losing a mate. Members have all experienced this situation and have learned how to cope, and to continue meeting the obstacles that arise from time to time in their lives.
