Warriors Place Six On All Conference Team By Dick Rabbitt In the most unbelievable happening in my association in the North Suburban Conference, the Warriors placed six members on the All Conference team. Never in my memory has a team so dominated the conference as the 1978 Warriors. As I mentioned last week Coach Ken Swanson had a fist full of statistics of his Warrior team, and the genial coach used them to the utmost in the balloting for All Conference Honors. It was not the dog fight that I predicted, but the conference coaches were aware of the caliber of the Warrior team of this past spring. It was cordial meeting, and in a fitting tribute all of the remaining coaches of the North Suburban spoke of praise and admiration of the coaches that were leaving the conference to join the Fox Valley Conference. Barry "Bear" Paulsen with a 5 and 1 record and Bobby Sharp who had a 4 and 1 pitching record along with "Old Reliable" Jeff Meyers were unaminous choices for the team. John Meyers, Bobby Adams, and Doug Oeffling were the other three selected for the team. Some of the highlights of the meeting will be in the column "On The Sideline" " NORTH SUBURBAN BASEBALL ALL CONFERENCE DeMetto, Gabe-Crystal Lake Bertram, Neal-Crystal Lake Campbell, Mark-Crown * Lutzow, Jerry-Crown Henning, Bill-Libertyville * Czosek, Dave-Libertyville « Meyers, Jeff-McHenry * Adams, Bob-McHenry Meyers, John-McHenry Oeffling, Doug-McHenry Paulsen, Barry-McHenry * Sharp, Bob-McHenry Powell, Rick-Mundelein * Piasecki, Bob-Mundelein Boothe, Mark-Mundelein Vale, Chris-Mundelein Gomski, Dave-North Chicago Neal, Darryl-North Chicago Collins, Jeff-Zion Benton Layne, Jamie-Zion Benton Dickinson, Joe-Zion Benton * Unanimous choice ht wt pos 5'8 165 o f . 61 175 s.s. 5'11 170 c 5'10 150 o.f. 5'8 140 c 61 145 p 6'0 170 o.f. 5'8 150 2b 6'0 165 o.b. 5'10 165 3b 6'1 180 P 5'8 140 P 5*7 160 s.s. 5'10 170 2b 6'3 220 lb 59 165 P 5' 10 165 o.f. 5'10 155 2b 5*7 145 p-o.f 57 170 2b 6'3 215 P CENTURY J Spring and Summer WeU-O-Rana Sale! ELM, McHENRY WEEKDAYS 8-6, FRIDAY TIL 9, SUNDAY 9AM TO NOON 3850722 On The Sidelines By Dick Rabbitt Congratulations to the six Warriors who made the North Suburban All Conference baseball team. Bob Adams, John and Jeff Meyers, Doug Oeffling, Barry Paulsen and Bob Sharp were given that honor last week by the conference coaches. When Bob Sharp's name was brought up, Coach Ernie Ritta of Libertyville turned and asked Coach Ken Swanson what position did he play. When informed that he shut them out, allowing only fne hit, the popular "Ernie" said, VHe has my vote". Having attended the football and basketball selections, it was quite evident, that the schools leaving the North Suburban, Crystal Lake, Crown and the Warriors were not going to get any breaks on conference selections. At the baseball meeting it was quite the opposite. The Warriors came through with a bang, showing that the baseball coaches harbor no ill feelings toward the group leaving the conference. With the school year coming fast to a close, it seems it is time to go back and review Warrior athletics the past year. Coach Chuck Cuda's golf team won the conference and finished third in Class AA in Springfield to get the school year off on the right foot. The football and cross country squads were well represented, and although not winning any championships had their share of thrills. The girls field hockey team had one of their better season with a lot of underclassmen taking part on the team. The long winter months saw a lot of activity. The Wafriors won the regional for the fourth time, and lost a close one to Antioch in the Rockford Sectional. The grapplers were plagued with injuries and illness throughout the season, but managed to stick it out through thick and thin. Coach Mike Shanahan's swimmers broke some thirty odd school records and had their best season ever with 12 wins and 4 losses. The girls basketball team gave their fans a lot to cheer about. This spring the Warrior baseball team was the talk of the town. For the first time in history they won the North Suburban and finished 19 and 4. Coach Dan Boland's track NOW HEAR THIS!!! The softball team improved in the later stages of the season, and lost a £ toughie in the sub-regional. The Water Polo team qualified for the state for the fourth time, and is fast § becoming a popular sport at McHenry. All in all it was a most successful year. A lot of students participated, there were wins and losses, and a great £ bunch of fans backing the various teams. £ What morecan one ask for in high school athletics? & With the closing of the school year an era is passing by the 'vayside. A great groupof kids will be going to a new £ high school next year in Jbhpsburg. The students from thst area have contributed so much in the years gone by ft) li the success of McHenry High School. They will be gone, but not forgotten. We are going to miss those young people who have done so much for the school. Missed also will the great parents and fans. The Bentzs, Dixons, Meyers, and £ Oefflings just to name a few of the fans. £ Hopefully we will still chat at the Johnsburg games next £ season, and hopefully when there is an off night, they will £ journey once again to either McCracken Field or Buckner Gym to see the Warriors in action. ' £ So to you students and fans, on behalf of the Warriors we £ wish you well in the Shark Conference. May you carry on li the fine work that you have shown in the past, and may £ victories be many and defeats few in the future. £ If the good Lord is willing, we'll be back in the fall to £ start another season. * WED.
