Coalition Passes Petitions For Tax Freeze Referendum The Coalition for Political Honesty is circulating petitions to put a proposition calling for an immediate freeze on property taxes on the November ballot as a voters' advisory referendum. The Property Tax Freeze referendum will ask whether the General Assembly should freeze property taxes in Illinois until the property tax system is reformed both by providing refunds to home owners and renters who pay more than 3'^ percent of their income in property taxes and by establishing citizen initiative for further tax reform. "We believe that Illinois How many children do married women expect to have within the next five years? Will they average the same number as in the recent past? Answers to these questions will indicate the future growth and com position of the nation's population, data vital to planners both in government and private business. Stanley D. Moore, director of voters should have a direct ballot opportunity to par ticipate in the national tax payer protest against^ unfair property taxes and assessments," said Patrick Quinn, Coalition spokesman. "Illinois home owners and renters are being crushed by a property tax overload which is taking a larger and larger share of their income' every year. 'Property taxes' are skyrocketing across the state and the only solution is a fun damental reform of the entire Illinois property tax system. "Why must hard-pressed Illinois families pay soaring the Bureau's Regional office in Chicago, announced that in formation on birth expectations of American women will be collected during the week of June 19 from a sample of households in this area. The questions are in addition to the usual ones asked in the monthly survey on employment and unemployment conducted nationwide by the Bureau for the U.S. Department of Labor. property taxes when year after year the Springfield politicians refuse to reform a property tax system which is driving citizens from their homes and causing a general decline in purchasing power? "The only way for home owners and renters to get politicians and local govern ments to seriously address property tax reform is to freeze assessed valuation and tax rates on all real property in the state." Quinn said the Property Tax Freeze referendum offers a specific way for millions of Illinois voters to demand property tax control and force politicians to stop dragging their feet on this issue. The Coalition must gather 625,000 signatures by Aug. 21 to put the Property Tax Freeze referendum on the November ballot. Illinois law allows any issue of public policy to be placed on the statewide ballot as an advisory referendum of 10 percent of the registered voters sign petitions. In 1976, Coalition volunteers collected'635,158 signatures to force state legislators to stop collecting their salaries in advance. Anyone interested in passing Tax Freeze petitions may write the Coalition at 28 Madison St., Oak Park, 111., 60302 or phone 312-524-1977. Census On Future Growth Population SEE BEFORE YOU BUY.
