For this party is Amateur Radio Field day, an annual event for amateur Radio Operators, sponsored by the American Radio Relay league. Nationally, Field day is designed to test the readiness of t Amateur Radio Operators to respond to an emergency or disaster situation. All stations participating must operate "in the wild", so to speak, with only emergency type power sources (batteries or portable electric generators) allowed. Then these stations must work as many other such stations as possible in the 24-hour period of the contest. Most operations consist of local club stations, which plan for field day months in advance. Locally, about twenty Amateur Radio Operators (or, "hams") under the leadership of Tom Burnett (callsign W9KTB) of Woodstock will operate from the northwest corner of Woodstock City park beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24. Operators for Woodstock's entry, which has been in planning for a month, will include housewives, students, a phone company (omr in mimI brim*?. you'll |{rl ii)rn> for fiiriiixhin^ % our hnlh mikI <li»<o»rr intuit charming piftn. .'IOI2 %. Anyone with a a interest in amateur radio is invited to drop by the Field day site during operating hours (1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday). The operators will be more than happy to show guests around and answer questions about the Amateur Radio service. Never Treat 'En Prison Chaplian--Why are you here again, Tom? They're almost always either good habits or bad habits. Ever hear of a "mediocre habit"? Unfortunately, bad habits seem to get all the publicity. Everything from drug addic tion to overeating is lumped together under the general category of "bad habit". In fact, so much is being said about bad habits that it's giving the word, "habit", a bad name. There's a whole world of good habita. One of the best, for financial well being, is the "savings habit". Making pavings a part of the way you do things. Set aside a certain amount of each paycheck and depoait that amount to your savings account. Do it on a regular baais for just a month or two and before you know it, Presto! A Good Habit. You'U be surprised by the self satis faction and personal security that can be created for you by something so simple. As a matter of fact, it's just the kind of thing that could give "habit" a good name.
