Feature Demolition Derby The famous Nationwide Demolition 1 >erby is coming to the McHenry County fair Sunday. Aug. 6. at the grand stand on the fairgrounds. "Gasoline Gladiators" will stage deliberate crashes. Men and women with plenty of nerve and a lust for thrills will compete for the cash prizes and trophies. The participants must supply their own cars. The car must be equipped with a safety belt and the driver must wear an ap proved crash helmet. When the green flag falls, the race track becomes a highway crowded with crazy "Sunday Drivers". These drivers don't mind wrecking their cars while they are behind the wheel The cars crash, smash and sometimes roll. The excitement builds until the competiton becomes a duel between the two surviving drivers. Then it is a fight to the finish The checkered flag will denote the winner With the flag goes the big cash prize. Official rules and entry- blanks will be available from the fair secretary and local gas stations. All participants must be over 21 or have a notarized release signed by their parents. Only American-made, hardtop automobiles are eligible. No special bumpers or reinforcements will be per mitted The only exception are roll bars around the driver's compartment which will be permitted, but not required. Jhe spectators are urged to cheer for their favorite driver. The event has been described by one newspaper editor as the Wildest ". most spectacular sporting event in the world. Because of the nature of this event, no spectators will be permitted in the infield. Therefore, they are urged by officials to come early and get a choice seat in the grandstand.
