A young bike rider hurried by and swept up the purse by its handle and drove on. With presence of mind, the victim screamed and a motorist in the lot came to her assistance but the boy had disappeared. In reporting the incident to the poli'ceif, employees of the store became aware of the incident and one young man who was a bagger left his station to look for the bicyclist. He returned, not with the young thief but with the purse he found in a bush back of the building. According to the victim, the bagger had every opportunity to take anything he wanted without being suspect. Everything was intact, to her great satisfaction. . When the lady returaed to give him a reward, the young man thanked her and said, "I'm a school dropout". The lady he had helped was a retired school teacher. The moral of this little story is not intended to show that school drop-outs are necessarily honest. It is, in stead, to point out that people are individuals, and as such, can be very good citizens in spite of the degree of success they attain in school, at home, or in business. KAF CLUB'S CUTE BABY CONTEST FEATURE OF FIESTA WEEK (Continued from page 1) infant must be less than 1 year of age by July 30. It will be the rainy season during Linda's stay, although it is said that one may experience all of the seasons in one day in Mexico City. The young lady, who is the daughter of Edward and Josephine Janeck of McHenry, will return this fall and will be available for speaking engagements, as are all AFS returnees, to share her ex periences gained in another country. Her address in Mexico is CacalcoNo. 48, Dept. Pensil^ Mexico. Zone 17 D.F. LAUD LAND USE DECISIONS (Continued from page 1) frontage in farm and estate zoning classifications. The County board had strong support from many civic organizations and individuals to overturn the ZBA decision. The ZBA had two hearings on the petition by the committee to amend the county ordinance, then by a 5-2 vote decided to recommend to the County board not to support the committee's petition. The decision will help prevent the practice called "flagging", where developers grouped several driveways together. TOWNSHIP TAX ASSESSMENTS (Continued from page 1) changed assessments for i978. The reason for change on all cards was simplified and stated under 1--Adjustment to market value reflects a change in assessment made by the assessor to show a change in the property's valuation; 2-- New property or new im provement is a change in assessment by the assessor to reflect either new buildings, new improvements or a new assessment for property as now described that was not on the previous year's tax roll. Property classified as farm property will only have entries under assessed value andi reason for change since farm property is being assessed under its productivity value with no direct relationship to market value or assessed level. The early date of publication has been accomplished by the cooperation of township assessors, the more sophisiticated data processing equipment used, the cooperation of the mapping company in its early com pletion of revisions necessary, and the completion of necessary Work in the super visor of assessments office. Any further questions may be addressed to the supervisor of assessments office or phone calls may be made to the office at 338-2040. CAR-CYCLE MEET... TRAGEDY AVERTED (Continued from page 1) told police he applied his brakes but could not avoid striking the turning auto. Polanski was ticketed for failing to yield when turning left. A Libertyville man was ticketed after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident on Green street early Sunday morning. According to city police, an unidentified witness told police that he observed a car south bound on Green street strike a parked car belonging to Her bert Hill of Twin Lakes, Wis., and leave the scene of the accident. Police obtained a description of the offending vehicle from the witness and later succeeded in locating the offending car. The driver of the car, Gary R. Aull, Libertyville, told police he was southbound on Green street at the time of the ac cident, but did not remember hitting anything. Police ticketed Aull for failing to give information following an accident and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Donna M. Cross, Round Lake, was ticketed after an accident on Elm street Saturday afternoon. According to police, Ms. Cross was parked along Elm street and said she didn't see anyone coming so she opened her door to leave the car and it was struck by a car traveling westbound on Elm street. Darlene L. Zimmermann, 7423 Maple, Wonder Lake, told police that she could not avoid striking the door of the parked car. Ms. Cross was ticketed for opening her doors into traffic. A minor traffic accident on E. Wonder Lake road Saturday morning was apparently caused when a Wonder Lake man failed to"*yield when making a turn. According to Sheriff's police, Robert H. Goetz, 8915 Ramble road, Wonder Lake, was nor thbound on E. Wonder Lake road, attempting to turn left into a garage. As the Goetz vehicle was turning left, a southbound car, driven by Brett A. Ellis of Lowell, Ind., crested a hill, and \ was struck by the turning vehicle. Neither driver was injured and Goetz was ticketed for failing to yield while turning left. ' A Wonder Lake woman escaped injury when she lost control of her car on McCullom Lake road Sunday afternoon and drove through a ditch. Leara G. Metille, 7621 North street, Wonder Lak£, told police she was westbound on McCullom Lake road when she lost control and drove into a ditch, knocking over 25 feet of fence and numerous corn stalks. The bright lights of a passing vehicle reportedly were the cause of a one-car accident on Pitzen road Friday night. William J. Schlichting, 4504 N. Riverdale, told police he was northbound on Pitzen road when an approaching vehicle with its bright lights on, forced him to drive to the right. The Schlichting auto left the roadway and struck a tree. Schlichting was uninjured in the mishap. MOBIL UNITS ANSWER SCHOOL ROOM PROBLEMS (Continued from page 1) Donations of developers, it was pointed out, are of money, not land. When Business Manager William Landis stated it was his understanding the city has $10,000 in donations for School District 15, Board President M. David Cain noted that the school should have this money in its possession to earn interest money. Donations are ear marked only for building sites or site improvement. Space and facility problems also extend to Harrison school, Wonder Lake, which for the third year will use Parkland's Industrial Arts and Home Economics rooms for some of its students. The cost will be $15 for each student. There are expected to be about 120 students at a minimum cost of $1,800. Dr. Richard Farmer, superintendent, told the board he thought SEDOM, the special Education District for McHenry County, would contract with the district for use of the White House on Waukegan street. A pre-school classroom would then be moved from Crystal Lake to McHenry. For the past three years the facility has been utilized for the Alternative school of High School District 156, which was not sufficiently funded to continue operation. Classified personnel salaries were acted upon for the year ahead. There was a 7 percent increase approved for secretaries, central ad ministration office and custodians. Full time teacher and clerical aides received a thirty-five cent an hour raise and for part-time it was twenty- five cents. The base pay for teacher aides was increased from $2.50 an hour to $2.65 for full time and $2.40 to $2.55 for part-time. The custodial base was increased $500, from $7,500 to $8,000. ROAD PROJECT BIDS The Illinois Department of Transportation will take bids June 30 for several area highway improvement projects. One of these is to remove and replace an existing box culvert carrying Rt. 31 over Dutch creek, about one and one-half miles north of McHenry. The estimated cost is $120,000.
