Peasley said all of last year's sponsors of local candidates are being invited to participate in the (, McHenry County pageant. Each local com munity must select one can didate for the county com petition, and the preceding year's local sponsors have first choice on the right to sponsor a local contest and to determine the format of the local selec tion, Peasley explained. The reigning Miss McHenry County is Cheri James from Algonquin. She represented McHenry County Fair association at the 1978 Miss Illinois County fair competition in January. Deadline for entries in the* pageant has been set for 5 p.m. Monday, July 3. Detailed rules and entry forms have been sent last year's sponsors. Girls must be at least 16 by /this Aug. 1 and not over 22 by Jan.^p, 1979-time of the state contest Candidates must be single, never married and a resident of McHenry county for at least six months. Among sponsors who par ticipated last year were the Wonder Lal^e Women's club and American Legion Post No. 491 auxiliary. Marian Growth Reported Steady Thomas J. Parsley, prin cipal, has announced that Marian Central Catholic high school continues to project a FORMAL WEAR RENTALS for 4LLOCCASIONS jjto.Ml steady growth for next year. Spring registration indicates a full 1978 enrollment of about 720. This projection is up ten students from the current total. "Especially important," stated Parsley, "is the strong enrollment in the 1978-1979 freshman class. Currently, 203 students from over twenty-six different junior high schools have enrolled as freshmen for 1978. Enrollment will close for freshmen at the 220 level." Families interested ih in- formation regarding registration in any of Marian's classes for 1978-1979 are asked to call Robert Gough, assistant principal, at 338-4220. McMillan of WOhder Lake, recently was appointed to the rank of warrant officer while serving with the 38th Transportation Battalion at Fort Eustis, Va. Appointed by the Secretary of the Army, a warrant officer is a highly skilled technician who fills those positions above the enlisted level which are too specialized to utilize a broadly- trained, branch-qualified commissioned officer. Knollwood drive, McHenry, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps recruit depot, San Diego. This nine-week training cycle covered basics of battlefield survival and provided an in troduction to the personal and professional standards trad- tionally exhibited by Marines. While participating in an active physical conditioning pi jgram, trainees gained proficiency in a variety of military skills, inclining first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill. Pvt. White received special recognition for superior achievement during the rifle marksmanship training phase, scoring 232 of 250 possible points and qualifying as the unit's high shooter. A 1978 graduate of McHenry high school, he joined the Marine Corps in February of 1978. Summer Sea Training For NROTC Student James R. Murray Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Murray Sr., of 1411 Palomino drive, McHenry, is undergoing summer training at sea. He is a member of the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) unit at the University of Notre Dame, Ind. This summer, he has been assigned to the Seventh Fleet. During their four to six-week summer training cruises, NROTC midshipmen receive instruction on shiphandling, navigation, seamanship, communications, damage control and gunnery. In addition to formal in struction, they gain practical experience by standing wat ches as regular members of the ship's crew. The student is a 1977 graduate of McHenry Com munity high school. Submarine School Ends For Recruits Navy Seaman Apprentice Martin S. Hall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon H. Hall of 607 Silbury court, and Navy Seaman Recruit John W. Seekings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Seekings of 2117 W. Salem, McHenry, have com pleted the Basic Enlisted course at the Naval Submarine school, Groton, Conn. During the six-week course, they were introduced to the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered and diesel submarines. In preparation for their first assignment, they studied shipboard organization, damage control, and sub marine safety and escape procedures. A 1977 graduate of McHenry high school, Seamlan Hall joined the Navy in January of 1978. Seaman Seekings also entered the service of the same time. J. ... Spring Grove, is*partcipating in a U.S. Air Fordf*Reserve Officers training corps field training encampment at Dyess AFB, Tex. During the encampment, cadets receive survival and small arms training and air craft and aircrew in doctrination.
