Two major reasons banks exis t are 1) to protect your money, and 2) to lend money. This per ta ins to the la t ter reason. Having the information necessary for a loan i s re la t ively s imple if you wi l l prepare three things for the loan off icer : a genera l f inancial s ta tement , a pro ject ion and a personal financial statement. The general financial sta te ment appl ies to a business or a specific project and includes balance sheet and an income and expense statement. The projection is usually an estimate of future income and expenses . I t a lso shows the banker that you have goals and visions and a way of putting dreams into reality. The third is the personal f inancial s ta tement , a usefu l tool because i t provides the banker with the information he 's looking for to make his judgement upon. For personal loans on cars , refrigerators and the like, the personal financial statement would certainly help speed the paper work. If you need help making one up, come by. What Just One Person Can Do Bridget Oppenheimer, > Peacemaker When Bridget Oppenheimer, wife of the world's leading diamond and gold magnate, emerged from private life, it was to plunge into one of today's most tense situations: the effort to lower the stringent racial barriers caused by South Africa's apartheid policy. In 1976, Mrs. Oppenheimer founded a multiracial organization, Women for Peace, one . of the few remaining reform groups left after the government outlawed almost the entire black protest movement in 1977. "It was really the Soweto riots that prompted me to do it," she said, refering to the anti-government protest in the black ghetto outside Johan nesburg in June, 1976. In the melee, nearly 700 blacks had died, many of them students shot by police. Hundreds of schoolchildren were arrested "I was very worried at what seemed like a breakdown in communications between the races" Women for Peace brings together blacks, whites, women of mixed blood and Indians estranged by decades of en forced separation. "We have all lived in our various ghettos for so long," said the woman who presides over a huge estate in Northern Johannesburg. "I think people now want to get together."" But the organization aims for much more. At the first meeting 120 women discussed steps toward stopping the violence. Another prime concern is improvement in black education, the issue behind the Soweto demon stration The most successful venture so far has been the children's program which brings together black, white and Indian youngsters who had never met or played with those of another race "We don't know each other very well yet, but it's lovely just to meet," said ope Indian girl. "We seem to have so much in common." We often find that we do have "so much in common" - if we give our selves, and each other, a chance PRESENT BIKK Sergeant Gary Roberts, McHenry County Air Force representative, has announced that he will be giving away a 10- speed bicycle during the McHenry County fair to be held Aug 2-6, at the McHenry county fairgrounds in Wood stock.
