When asked what they thought of flying, they replied "wonderful, but just a little hard on the ears"! A welcome committee of pousin Evie and Aunt Eunice met them at the airport. After catching up on some sleep, they enjoyed their stay in Arlington, Tex. On their first day they drove down to Fort Worth to watch Evie's sons, Jimmy and Christopher Bassler, play baseball in the major league, then a tour of the Will Rogers museum. The following day Debbie enjoyed the most, it was spent at Six Flags Over Texas. Virginia and Barb will long remember the beautiful performance by the Sons of the Pioneers. On one of the days a visit to the flea market, open air vegetable and fruit market were just the place to pick up some great bargains. One place that everyone enjoyed was the Arlington Wax Museum. They had famous outlaws, sheriffs, famous presidents, and even a replica of Boot Hill. The weather on some days reached over 115 degrees so Virginia, Barb, and Debbie were quite happy to return to McHenry. PJocher, Ex tension adviser, Agriculture, McHenry county) Council Members Retire - Twelve program council members have retired from their position of directing the local educational efforts of the Cooperative Extension Service in McHenry county. From the Ag. council are Don Ahrens and Dick Stoxen of Harvard; Dave Gardner, Solon Mills; Gail Harms, Crystal Lake; Pete Reiland, Jr., and Keith Weingart of McHenry and Owen Richardson of Spring Grove. From the Youth council, Bo McConnell of Harvard; Lloyd Shaw of Woodstock and Larry West of Alden. From the Home Economics council Pete Stucky of Woodstock and Judy Starr of Marengo. Army Worms - Army worms have been showing up in various locations in the county. Early planted corn with very bad grass problems, early seeded small grains, and grassy fence rows and road embankments have provided good egg laying sites for Army Worm Moths coming from the south. Spray when leaves at ear level are being eaten. Don't spray when signs of diseased or dead worms are present. Apple Diseases - Do not extend your spray schedule or stop spray applications too soon this year is the message from Extension Fruit specialists and Plant pathologists. Diseases including flyspeck, sooty bloth- ch, black rot. bitten rot, and bot rot require control for the remainder of the season. Are you subscribing to the "Spray Service Report"?
