Lakemoc >r-Lilymoor Margaret Karbs 385-4934 Librarian Attend* Small Libraries' Service Programs Louise Hipwell, Board of Trustee's president, and Margaret Karas, librarian of the McHenry Nunda library district, attended the "Programs of Service for Small Libraries" sponsored by the Library Systems, the Illinois State Library and Northern Illinois university. This was a condensed, con centrated study of thirty-three contact hours, to determine how library services can be improved, enlarged, and made accessible to all people. , Louise concentrated on "Law and Money", to learn of the legal problems facing library boards, the procedures a board must follow, and the monetary regulations which determine the library's future. Margaret attended the special £roup for 1 honeymoon, bride snd £room "Acquisitions", a study on how h® a* home in Champaign, subject of a special column in the Plaindealer Friday. Now that she has reached 95, % won't be so difficult. Grampa and Gramma Hueckstaedt and Uncle Rusty were among those at a pcty for Christopher Mumma, on Aug. 5. Everyone enjoyed the bir thday cake and the family get- together. Aug. 20 marks Irene Thorn ton's birthdate. Marion Leske, a former library board member, celebrates the same day. Barbara Nejedly's bir thday is Aug. 21. The anniversary couple is David and Virgie Eggert who celebrate their third year on the twenty-second of August. May you all have a happy day and an exciting year to look forward to. NUPTIAL NEWS The Wilfred Blakes youngest son, Jeffrey, was married to Kay Bowen on July 29 in Marengo. After their to build a library collection that is economical, useable, and satisfying to patron's needs. An area of importance covered was the relationship between boards and librarians. Group Dynamics were probed in depth. Parliamentary procedure was clearly defined to show the responsibilities of boards, librarians and citizens in the library context. Problems of personnel, which our one-person library does not face at this moment, were posed and solutions presented. The four day institute ended with a charge to the librarians and trustees, to use the leadership skills and technical information provided to make their libraries a more vital and valuable resource in their community. Also, to give all our people access to library materials and policies, so our library will be alive and healthy. It is up to all of us to be aware of the im portance of having "Freedom to read' and to have full community cooperation on the project the board is now facing. Information leads to un derstanding. "A feller is generally down on what he ain't up on". Will you support your library, so all can be provided with the tools for knowledge and enrichment needed and desired? I *-* . N < • CELEBRATIONS ; We are happy to add our congratulations to Mrs. Ida Legge on her ninety-fifth bir thday, Aug. 22. She is the where they will both be students at the University of Illinois. Max Dawdy, of our fire com pany, was overcome by smoke and hospitalized. He is recovered now, and we're thankful that there were no other injuries. The restaurant will be closed temporarily for repairs and remodeling. AREA CRIME INCREASING Four break-ins and rob beries, and one arson case were reported within a 24-hour period in our area, Aug. 6 and 7. Stolen were money, power tools, hand tools and other items that are easily fenced. Residents are warned to keep all garages and buildings locked, and to make access to them as difficult as possible. If strange cars are noticed cruising in your area, take down license numbers. Be aware of unusual cir cumstances. Notify the sheriff's office immediately when suspicious activity oc curs. NEW GRANDCHILD "Mama" Rose added another granddaughter to her growing family on Aug. 3. Wanda Louise Rose is the newest member. Bill and Mary Rose's daughter weighed in at 6 lbs., 12 oz., and was 20 inches long. The new baby is a happy addition to the Rose household. FEELING BETTER Little Chad Hueckstaedt is now home from the hospital and recuperating. Chad has had many medical problems in his three years of life. We hope all will be well with him now. Also feeling better is Willard E. Mix. He still keeps busy helping out at the hardware store, in spite of health problems. Keep up the good spirits, Willard. GOD BLESS.
