PAGE 4 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. AUGUST IS. lfl» A HELPING PAWS ANIMAL WCLFAM ASSOCIATION P.O. Bex 209 • Crystal lake, Illinois MOU • (§15) 459-2441 By Est*JI« Atwell Originally scheduled for this week's column was one of our excellent articles by EsteUe At well. However, the incident which occurred at our 465 .CLE A^INf, Sf RVU.f INT Virginia street address in Crystal Lake must take precedence over Estelle's column this week. I was called to the office by Bebe Van Lent PROFESSIONAL Small Office & Household CLEANING • Weekly • Bi-Weekly • Monthly • Upholstery Cleaning • Wall Washing CALL •Light Housekeeping • Inside Windows • Carpet Cleaning •General Housekeeping or Maiu Service 385-0283 TODAY who heard crying coming from the alley in bsck of the office. Upon investigstion she found 10 four-week old Shepherd Lab mix puppies. I arrived ten minutes later to find a huge cardboard box, that hsd been tightly closed at the top, so that no circulation of air was possible. The heat inside the box would have killed all of the pups soon As it was, the smallest puppy of the litter was unconscious. Cool water and the air-conditioned office, revived her. The others lay gasping for breath and I had difficulty refreshing them. As a rule, this organization tries to stay away from the maudlin and emotional stories. This time an exception must be made. It is sad and frustrating to know the possible fate of these pups. They are unadoptable - our foster homes have no more room to take them in, and even if they did, homes are difficult to find. Animal Control will pick them up unless our readers have room in their hearts and homes The DUDS The people could have SOFT • WATER s6" RENTAL No installation chargit NEW fully automatic softeners TWO year option to buy with FULL rental fee deducted ONE phone call can answer any questions AND $050 per RKMHI RENT /Mm PHONE 312-259-3393 SOFT R»nt-a-Soft, a division of the Arlington Soft Water Company, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004 Serving McHenry Area for one more life. deserve a chance. who left them here called anonymously to let me know that the pups were back there. All ten have been fed milk and moist dog food, and are sleeping peacefully. We hope to do the impossible and And them a home. I can only make a plea on their behalf and for all of the others at the center. Please call Animal Control if you can help them, 338-7040, or visit the Cento* at 11608 Banford road in Wood stock.
