MCHS Class Of 1968 In Reunion a k Conservation News McCullom Lake 3 - PLA1NDEALER - WEDNESDA * , AUGUST 2:i, 1978 The dredge is working beautifully. A trench 1,500 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 15 feet deep has been completed, and the dredge is now working perpendicular to that trench. The work crew, which is on overlapping shifts from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., is now completing the beach and boat ramp for West Shore Beach. The water is now very deep close to shore there, so swimmers beware! The dredge has opened up several beautiful, bubbling springs, as well as two small creeks leading into the lake. A short note: if anyone has some rags to donate to the dredge operation, they would be appreciated. It is very dirty work. Just drop them off at the dredge site Some clarifications on the proposed McCullom Lake Master association The proposed association is not asking for a deed to the lake bottom, but rather for a long- term lease from each of the lake-bottom owners. As also stated in the previous article, this association would not have taxing power. Rather, the proposal suggested that such an association might have access to tax money collected by members of the association which had taxing power, namely the city of McHenry and the village of McCullom Lake Jerry Raycraft did an ex cellent job of explaining the Master association proposal at the Aug. 17 meeting, and a number of people left the meeting with a much greater understanding of what the proposal is all about Anyone who has questions or concerns about the proposed association, the dredge, or anything else about the lake is very cordially invited to the next, meeting of the club at the McCullom Lake Beach house Thursday, Sept 21, at 8 p.m. The Committee About 140 members of the 1968 class of McHenry Community high school gathered at Andre's in richmond recently for a ten-year reunion. While most of the class attending were from this area, special honors were accorded Barbara Kidd, who came from Honduras. The evening dinner was followed by dancing. Lakemoor-Lilymoor Margaret Karas 385-4934 Cross-Country Camping Trip To Washington George, Diane and Cari Kawell and their nine-year-old friend, Cole Torrence from Joliet, enjoyed a three week camping trip to Seattle, Washington, where they visited with Diane's brother and sister- in-law and their new baby boy Enroute, they camped one day in the sweltering semi-arid Badlands Another day was spent in the cool Ponderosa pine-scented Black Hills of South Dakota, and then on to a sparkling clean mountain lake campsite in the Bitteroot Hange near Anaconda. Mont. Diane stated, "Our senses were critically alert, constantly stretching to absorb each new experience Hundreds of miles of rugged sagebrush country stretched to the horizon, predominantly tan in color with an occasional outcropping of green cottonwoods along dried up creeks and rivers, twisting through mountain ranges, in and out of narrow tunnels and suddenly being greeted by clear splashing waterfalls and pine-filled air". Finally in Seattle, there was visiting and a days R&R, followed by a trek to the Olympia rain forest and the Pacific coast. Then back to Seattle to enjoy the famous "Pike Place Public Market", where Diane's brother and his wife earn their daily living as craftspeople. Everyone gorged himself on seafood dinner, then visited the Space Needle, and toured the new Seattle Aquarium on Puget Sound. The children especially enjoyed the "touch tank", which contains live purple star fish, sea anemones, oysters and clams Heading home, the major highlights were the Cascade Mountains, and the Chinook pass, which affords a superb view of Mt. Ranier; another idyllic campsite on rushing Rock creek in the Medicine Bow National forest of Wyoming; and an authentic Pony Express station in Gothenburg, Neb „ Now George, next year.... NEW BABY Andrew Gordon Possum was born Aug 12 at the McHenry hospital. He is Wendy and Andy's first baby, and made his entry with the soft lights, warm bath, and father's attendance which is the procedure in the LaBoyier method of delivery Being^an integral part in the delivery process, was a very meaningful experience for Andy. Birth of a new life is truly evidence of God's love for all of us. Andrew Gordon is Dawn and John Foute's third grandchild, and the first male represen tative. Wendy was home with Andrew after only two days in the hospital, so they are all enjoying a really new born baby. L.LLL. Bunco was the name of the game at the Lily Lake Ladies league social night last Wed- nesday. Five members won prizes Helen Netzel won first, then Carol Green. Sophie Paterson, Jean Dember, and, last but not least, booby prize winner Marie Hyatt. Hostesses for the enjoyable evening were Anna Brzezinski and Sophie Paterson. An added pleasure was having Mildred Narcarti's daughter-in-law, Ann Narcarti, from Glenville, Georgia, as a guest Mildred's family visitors cause an awareness of the different speech in our country Ann is from soft spoken Georgia, and Mildred's sister, who visited her recently, has a Brooklyn accent. Having visitors from other areas adds excitement to the ladies' meetings. LIBRARY STORY The Busy Bee party, held for members of the summer reading club at the McHenry- Nunda library on Aug 15, was a happy, hot time. Karen Clewis and children Laura and John, were in charge. Kim Stobbe played the guitar, songs were sung, drinks and cookies were enjoyed, and many prizes given out The heat was too much for energetic games, so the 25 or so youngsters dispersed early, About 20 other members were unable to come Summer reading did keep many of our youngsters busy Isn't it good to have a place nearby where books are available at no cosC CHRISTENING Scott Edward Thornton, Lu Gravenstuk's great granson, was christened at St Patrick's church, Sunday Aug 13 Godparents were Cindy Dalton. Our area was not hit by a tornado, but trees were downed In Lakemoor, one street was closed to traffic for a day until the tree was cut up and removed. Damage at our house con sisted of one torn screen in the door The white, princely Samoyed dog who is visiting here, is terrified of thunder He had been left on a chain outside, and when the rolling rumble sounded, Knight had to get inside, fast Result, one half of screen missing in door Mother Nature does cause strange happenings CELEBRATIONS Birthday recognition this week includes Edna O'Donnell on Aug. 24, and Danny Gosell on the twenty-sixth.
