Thirty-one participated in the general and home economics classes, fifteen in dog obedience and twenty-four in Share-The-Fun competition. In the general and home economics classes first, second and third place ribbons were given and a superior of the day in each class was also named. McHenry county 4-H'ers competed against ten other counties on their day at the fair. Superior ratings were received by nine county 4- H'ers. They are: Cindy Nichols, mistress of ceremonies for Share-The-Fun; Susan Thompson, food and nutrition display; Lee Tomlinson, stit- chery; Diane Kuhlman, knitting; Lynn Ponto, crochet; Shelly VonBruenchenhein, flower arranging; Kathy Henning, clothing con­ struction; Steve Smith, elec­ tricity 'and Chris Jurs, tailoring Others who participated in State fair classes and how they fared are: Judy Vyduna, A, public speaking; Nikki Payne, B, public speaking; Chris Beaulieu, A, public speaking; Jodi Beutel, A, demonstration; Diane Heinrich, A, food demonstration; Julene Hahn, A, weaving; Robin Blumel, A, casting; Lisa Graniano, A, macrame; Gary Payne, A, string art; Denise Hardt, A, house plant; John Wiefenback, A, terrerium; Pat Smith, A; woodworking; Debbie Griggs, A, room improvement; Karen Drendel, A, dress revue; Fay Stroh, A, dress Revue; Janet Sullivan, A, dress revue; Mary Weidner, A, dress revue and Dave Swanson, participation, tractor operator's contest. Fifteen 4-H'ers traveled with their dogs to the fair to par­ ticipate in the Dog show. Again McHenry county rated superior by receiving the Governor's trophy. 4-H'ers train their dogs through the county dog obedience classes. They must receive a qualifying score at the county contest to be sent on to state. The dogs are judged according to AKC rules. This is the third time the Governor's trophy was awarded to McHenry county. „ Patti Lang has the Highest scoring dog in the state. She came in first place in the novice, graduate novice, and open classes at the State fair. Sub-Novice participants can receive a maximum of 160 points. Participants were Cindy Eddy, 1st, 156 points; Lisa Peterson, 4th, 154points; Kathy McMillan, 6th, 152 points and David Grandt, 8th 150 points. In the Novice tlass the maximum is 200 points: Anita Stabrowski, 8th, 1891* points; Sue Holian, 21st, 189 points; Linda Redman, 25th, 189 points; Carol Coonen, 189 points; Debbie Nunes, 189 points; Carol Segerstrom, 178»/i points. Graduate Novice: Patti Lang, Governor's trophy, 197 points. The Community Builders 4-H club performed its Share-The- Fun skit "For Better for Worse?" in the state com­ petition.
