To help area motorists and their families enjoy this last hurrah of summer, the Chicago Motor club-AAA has compiled this list of selected weekend destinations Galena. Illinois: Located in the far northwestern part of the state. Galena is famous for probably the finest period architecture in the midwest. Among the sites worth seeing is the Ulysses S Grant home on Bouthillier and 4th streets; the Galena Historical museum, 211 S Bench street; Dowling house, Main and Diagonal streets; Market House State memorial. Commerce street; and the Stockade on Main street Shawnee National Forest. Today, South Haven is a popular summer vacation area noted for its coho and chinook salmon fishing Wonder Lake Man Investment Officer Recycling Program The Ill inois Commerce commission and Com monwealth Edison company have announced the beginning of an optional Time-of-Day rate experiment During the month of August, a random sample of 12,000 Edison residential customers is receiving letters offering them the opportunity to reduce their electric bills by participating in the experiment "Just as the phone company offers lower rates for long distance calls made during less busy evening and weekend hours, customers in this experiment will pay less for electricity used during low demand periods of the day," according to ICC Chairman Charles Kocoras For the experiment, a special meter is installed to record not only the amount of electricity used, but 'also when it is used Customers then will be charged a higher rate for electricity consumed during the daytime peak demand hours The charge will be substantially lower at night and on weekends If the customer can shift part of his electricity usage from peak to off peak periods, costs will be reduced sub stantially over the course of a full year Kocoras added Six different t ime-of day rates are being tested in the experiment and each will be offered to about 2,000 customers The rates vary in two ways: the hours of each day included in the peak period and the difference between peak and off peak period charges Commonwealth Edison customers now pay about 4 2 cents per kilowatthour for electricity any time it is used In the experiment, the rates are approximately 1.4-3 cents per kwh used off-peak and 6 5 - 10 cents per kwh used on-peak in the summer The winter on- peak charges are slightly less than in the summer As usual, a fuel adjustment charge will continue to be added to all bills The Lake Shore National bank, 605 North Michigan avenue. Hettermann, the owner of the firm, explained that on Aug. 5, in just 2 hours, 2,360 pounds of aluminum cans were turned in by individuals and organizations. Over 10,000 pounds of cans have been redeemed by the firm this year. This represents a total of over $1,700 that has been given to individuals and organizations for the cans. The redemption offer is part of a large scale recycling program by a brewing company. Kane. DuPage. and Will counties and the Rockford and Rock Island SMSA) had a 3 percent decrease in mortgage loan volume during June. 1978, from June, 1977 The eighty-seven northern Illinois S&L's made $176.7 million dollars worth of mor tgage loans in June, 1978, as against $181 5 million in June, 1977 This brought the mor tgage loan total for the first six months of the year to $846 7 million as against $785 8 million a year earlier, an eight percent increase Recycling Program with cut Approximately 10,000 pounds of all-aluminum beverage cans have been redeemed by Charles Herdrich and Son since the first of the year, according to Jim Hettermann, owner of the firm I n d i v i d u a l s a n d organizations who turned in the cans for redemption have earned $1,700 for the redemp tion of the empty aluminum cans The cans are turned in at the Charles Herdrich and Son Collection center. 1014 N.
