Diane and other junior volunteers in medical-surgical departments also distributed meal trays, refilled ice^water pitchers, read to patients, helped to feed them, and ran errands. Marybeth ("Buffy") Trosky, a summertime junior volunteer at McHenry hospital, reads a children's book to a pre-school patient. She and other junior volunteers in the pediatric department also fed patients, played games with them, and "helped wherever needed." Hospital Junior volunteers are needed at McHenry hospital for the coming semester, according to Mrs. Daniel Schmitt, chairman of the student volunteer ser­ vice. Boys and girls who are in high school and are at least 14>* years old are eligible to become junior volunteers. Mrs. Schmitt said. "These teen-agers help patients wherever they are needed. In the pediatric department, they may read to the children, feed them, or just keep them company. In adult departments they distribute meal trays, deliver flowers, answer requests, and so fourth."' The event will be held Oct. 14 at the Turnberry Country club in Crystal Lake for the benefit of the paramedic program of McHenry county-western Lake county. On Dec 6. there will be a bus- luncheon-theater trip to Shady Lane, Marengo, and there are few reservations available Mrs Wanda Zima. social chairlady. mentioned that volunteering to bring cakes for the meetings, saves the com­ mittee a lot of time Dues may be paid by sending a check to membership chairlady, Charlotte Wons. at 609 B Waters Edge drive, and a receipt and membership card will be ready at the next meeting Mrs Esther Heard, program chairlady, reported that the program by the Union 76 chours set for Sept 11 has been rescheduled for Oct 23 On Sept 15, the program will be by Mr Ed McEadaen of the McHenry county sheriff's department entitled "Bunco Boys"; the McHenry Choral club will present the program on Nov 13 and Rev Herbert Duenow will give a book review on Oct 9 Mrs Heard has quite a varied schedule of programs lined up The scheduled program wal; the "Crystal Notes" a ladies' vocal group from Crystal Lake who en­ tertained for the rest of the evening The next meeting will be on Sept 11 at 7:30pm at the new location, West campus cafeteria Laundering Cash In the early 1900 s, the U S Treasury Department utilized a special laundering machine Paper money that had become soiled was washed then -- rather than destroyed as is the current practice McHenry hospital's annual anniversary dinner dance, to be held Oct 14 at the Turnberry Country club in Crystal Lake, will benefit the paramedic program of McHenry county and western Lake county, according to Mary A Snyder, chairman of the event "The Mobile ICU program serves our area is unique in many ways It covers the largest geographical area of any MICU program in the United States' it is largely rural and manned mostly by highly- trained volunteers," Mrs Snyder said "Since it cannot depend on federal, state or municipal funding for its continuance, the MICU program must rely on the support of individuals, businesses and organizations "All funds raised by our anniversary dinner dance will go to maintain and expand the paramedic program This is our opportunity to express our support and appreciation to the paramedics whose selfless and skillful efforts have save countless lives " The dinner dance will begin with a social hour at 6 30 p m featuring musical en tertainment Dinner will be followed by dancing "Our past dinner dances have been very enjoyable, and we expect a capacity crowd," Mrs Snyder added "In­ vitations will be mailed this week, and we urge everyone who plans to attend to respond promptly Reservations mqst be limited, in accordance with the Turnberry Country club rules " Long, Proud Line Of Family Name Continues When a son was born Aug 15 in Memorial hospital, Wood­ stock, to Mr and Mrs Victor <Terri> Hopp, IV, of Harvard, he became the latest of a long line to carry the name Victor- August Victor IV is the oldest son of Victor Hopp III and Connie Hopp, who live in Johnsburg The origin of Victor A Hopp was in England, where Victor A Hopp I was born Feb 28, 1880.
