Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis 'DPT' combination vaccine - first dose at two months old. a total of three doses at four-to-six-week in tervals and boosters one year after the primary series and before entering school Measles, mumps and rubella combination vaccine at 15 months old - no boosters are necessary Before children enter their freshman year in high school, they must have diphtheria and tetanus boosters and a physical examination Tetanus boosters are also given when a child is exposed to bacteria through a puncture wound or injury S c h o o l c o d e s r e q u i r e t h a t children be protected against these diseases children will not be allowed to attend school unless they are immunized The McHenry County Health department has the necessary vaccines available to protect your child against disease The Health department is located on the ground floor. L'ntil the discovery of the electroencephalogram < EEG». which measures and records electrical activity in the brain, it was assumed that sleep was a period of inactivity, in which entire body, including the brain, rested from a day of work While this is true in man} respects there is an amazing amount of activity that takes place during sleep One fact is certain Sleep is an absolute necessity It is not the actual hours of sleep that is vital it is the type of sleep There are certain well defined cycles that occur during sleep and appear necessary in order to feel rested and alert One of the most important parts of an individual cycle is the "dream" part of sleep, called the REM phase HEM is an abbreviation for rapid eye movement", which signals the onset of the dream phase HEM can be easily observed in a sleeping individual as the eyeballs can be seen moving behind closed lids If a sleeping person is awakened during an REM phase he will always report that he was in the midst of a dream For reasons vet unknown, the HEM ph ase is absolutely necessary during the sleep Any alteration of this phase will leave the person feeling like he did not get adequate sleep Continued disturbance of this phase can have disasterous emotional and physical con sequences Interesting, and disturbing, is the fact that certain sleeping medications tend to alter the HEM as well as other phases of sleep and provide a dubious long term solution to sleep difficulties One entire sleep cycle on an average lasts approximately ninety minutes A normal ia dividual then, on a normal night will go through four »o five sleep cycles It appeals that more important than the actual number of hours of sleep is the number of sleep cycles Next Insomnia
