Any woman veteran who has had service during the designated periods of time, is also eligible for membership. New eligibility dates for membership are as follows: World War I, April 6, 1917, to Nov 11, 1918; World War II, Dec 7, 1941, to Dec 31, 1946; Korean War, June 25, 1950, to Jan. 31, 1955; Vietnam conflict, Aug 5, 1964, to Aug. 15, 1973. The Membership program of the department (state organization) under the direction of Mrs. Jack (Shirley) Jones, has for its theme and symbols, Flowers. "Flowers for Mary's Garden of Service" will be the guide. The district's will be flowers and the division's, the gardens. Mary Patterson of the Lincoln unit is the new department president. The auxiliary, as an 'aide' to the American Legion can be a truly rewarding experience in e f f e c t i v e l y p r e s e n t i n g programs and projects which are of peacetime service to " c o m m u n i t y , s t a t e a n d nation." In our work of Americanism, national Security, Community Service, Children and Youth and Service to our Veterans, we believe that we are giving an example of patriotic service and helping to maintain the strength of spirit essential to the survival of freedom. Basically, the reason for being a member of the American Legion auxiliary is to give active support to a patriotic service organization and to contribute to the aims and purposes of the American Legion. One of the main pur poses of the McHenry unit is to provide aid and comfort to the veteran patients in Elgin and North Chicago veterans' hospitals. "She Stoops to Conquer," Oliver Goldsmith's rollicking comedy of 18th century E n g l a n d ' s m a n n e r s , m o r a l e and mistaken identities, will be presented by the Woodstock Performing company and the Woodstock Opera house for" three performances only Sept 29at 8:15 p.m. and Sept 30 at 2 and 8:15 p.m. Produced by the University of Chicago Court theatre, "She Stoops to Conquer" has enjoyed an enthusiastic reception by both Chicago audiences and the press In fact, when the play opened at Covent Garden in 1773, London's "Public Ad vertiser" stated, "..unin terrupted laughter the theatre was filled with the loudest acclamation that ever rung within its walls." And audiences are still laughing today Director Nicholas Rudall, artistic director of the Court theatre since 1971. brings out the talents of the University of Chicago repertory company in this tale of a young Londoner who travels to the country with the intention of meeting and marrying the daughter of his father's best friend The young man. who is awkward and shy in the presence of a lady but confidently amorous with servant-girls, mistakes his bride-to-be for a barmaid The result is a mixturfe of foolishness and trickery as city manners meet country ways The young hero adds to the confusion when he thinks his father's friend is an innkeeper Tickets are now on sale through the Woodstock Opera house ticket office, in person or by phoning 338-5300 Reputation Established Foreman (to applicant with slight physique "Do you think you are fit for really hard labor."
