Needless to say. Whimper spent the night outside After an early morning bath of tomato juLe. shampoo and vinegar rinse, she was once more allowed house privileges. But Whignper evidently enjoys that particular aroma; so she went back for more For a dog with her own library card, she sometimes is not very smart. GOD BLESS Commission Plans Public Tax Hearings At Rockford There's a public hearing on taxes in Rockford next Wed nesday, Oct 25. and if you don't go, the Governor is going to conclude that you don't think taxes need cutting "That 's the message that came through loud and clear from Governor Thompson at the sparsely attended first public hearing of the Gover nor 's Advisory Commission on Taxes." reports State Rep Cal Skinner. Jr < R McHenry County). The Governor said. "There are a lot of people who think taxes are too high and would like to see them cut If they really believe that, they ought to be here If they feel strongly, then they could take time to be here just l ike the commission has done " People who want to let the Governor know what they think about taxes will have three chances on Wednesday, Oct 25, at the county board room of the Winnebago county courthouse on State street in Rockford. 10 am 1 pm , and 6 pm That s the time each of the sessions will start "I think the commission is really doing a good job making it possible for people who work to be able to testify I hope those who have been sending me letters complaining about property taxes will take this opportunity to tell what they have to say to the group Governor Thompson is ap parently going to take advice from;" Skinner said ^ Mini-Proposition i:» At the Chicago hearing. Skinner unveiled his "mini- Proposition 13 " It consists of a constitutional amendment which would allow 5 percent of the voters inany county to limit property t 'Sxes on their homes to whatever percentage of market value that they thought fair. "Californians thought 1 percent of market value was the right level In Winnebago county, homes are taxed higher, on the average, than anywhere else in Ill inois 1.95 percent of a home's market value is paid every year in property taxes Other areas, such as DeKalb county and McHenry county, are closer to 1.5 percent, while Boone county homeowners paid 1 3 percent of their homes' sale value in 1976 (the last year for which statistics are available*. Other counties are taxed well under 1 percent of market value." Skinner said "For that reason, I 've proposed that residents of each county be empowered to decide the right level of taxation on their homes all by themselves, as revolutionary as they may sound to some. "I 'd certainly be interested in anything those who favor or oppose my proposal have to say." Skinner said Unique Program Tells Indian Ridge Mystery The Indian Ridge Lodge located in /his conservation site of the McHenry County Con servation District will be the location for a unique program on Oct 28 starting at 10 am There will be enchanted tales of Indian Ridge's past mystery surrounding this most beautiful area Following this brief inside program visitors will then be guided out on the nature trail to experience a bit of our roots ' To get to the lodge, take Rt 31 just south of McHenry to Bull Valley Road, turn left (east) Travel to the next road, Barreville and turn right Take Barreville to State Park Road and turn left Follow State Park Road to fork and bear right on Orchard Lane through sub division around wooded ridge on the right Just around curve watch for gravel entrance to Indian Ridge on the right ' Turn your home into an energy conservation machine. With a heat pump. Instead ol burning scarce fuels, the heal pump uses electncity to capture heat trom a limitless energy source The sun It's the most practical, efficient heating and cooling system you can install today And it's dramatically changing the way we use energy Turns heat eneigry outside in and inside out The same pnnciple that makes the heat pump work is already at work In your home inside your retngeraior In tact, a heat pump is a lot like a retngeraior There s an indoor unit that consists ot a coil and tan There s an outdoor unit thai consists ot a coil tan and compressor Piping connects them Inside the system a retngerant circulates carrying the heal trom inside out and outside in Even on the cloudiest coldest day ot winter there s still solar heat in the air The retngerant in the outdoor coil absorbs this heal is compressed and pumped inside The heat comes out keeping you warm In summer the process is reversed Warm air inside the home is blown over the indoor coil The retngerant absorbs this heat is pumped outside then condensed The heat comes out leaving you cool nt:iLLiuMuiuuiiuii » % - The amazing heat pump is installed on the outside of the home and is about the same size a* a conventional central air conditioning unit No matter how the temperature changes the heat purnp automatically makes the necessary changes to keep you comfortable And the unit (liters the air and dehumid tiles too Produces more energy than it uses That s why the heal pump is a real energy conservation machine In a typical Illinois winter a heat pump provides at least 1 5 units ot heat energy tor every equivalent unit of electricity it uses Unlike systems thai merely use up energy to make heal the heat pump uses eiectncity to produce more energy than it uses It s this extra energy bonus thai makes the heat pump a smart investment The initial cost is a little higher But the operating cost is lower So in the long run the heat pump can help you save How to get one.
