That was kind of goofy This is one of those times when Dick Rabbitt sends a note to say it is in between sports seasons and not to expect too much OK. Dick We've lived through those times before and manage to find something for the sports section Dick's report shows no lettermen and no 6-6 to 7 foot players on the squad. They are out with your spring fashions Wherever did that winter go? Anybody want to tell me what is wrong with the Chicago Bears0 Losing eight games in a row may not be the end of the world, but it is earth shaking. Reminiscing with Arlene Pearson at the Ringwood Church dinner brought us around to fond memories of Miss Pryor, Principal and confidante in our high school days The last day of my senior year I rushed up town to buy a little book and asked different ones to write notes in it. Miss Pryor wrote: If I ever frowned -- If was only to hide smile the In filling out a questionaire, a sweet young thing advised me that I would have to be 65 years of age to qualify. On The Sidelines By Dick Rabbitt The hopes of the Crystal Lake Tigers for a state championship in football went down the drain last Saturday afternoon. The Tigers were soundly beaten by an old foe, Lake Forest of the North Suburban Conference The 26 to 13 win for the Scouts was not as close as the score. Even when their best runner Brirti Moore was injured on the third play of the game, it didn't slow down the Seoul express Anyway the Tigers ended up 10 and 1 and that is not t bad record Of course everyone in the Fox Valley was pulling for them to win and advance a little further in the playoffs. Coach Hans Rokus and his Hurricane cross country team are to be congratulated on their 4th place finish in the state last Saturday. Their outstanding runner Darryl May finished 3rd only a few seconds behind the winner Coaches Ken Ludwig and Marty Sobczak have their teams hard at practice awaiting the opening of their respective seasons Inexperience will be a big factor for both teams in the early season Ludwig had no lettermen returning, and Sobczak has two. only one healthy for the opening weeks We still expect to see both teams exciting as ever as the season progresses A couple of bouquets to Mark Vogt and Randy Wright These two fine gentlemen were selected by their teammates as Most Valuable in their respective sports, Mark in football, and Randy in cross country No greater honor can be bestowed upon an individual in athletics To be selected by your teammates for such an honor is simply just outstanding It could not have happend to t' ;o finer boys The National Federation of High Schools has recently conducted a poll on Sports in High Schools Some interesting results were found The most popular girl's sport was basketball in number of schools participating, as well as the number of participants In boys it was basketball by the number of schools, and football by the number of participants. The fastest growing sport for girls both in schools named and participants was Cross Country (Hutch take note). For boys it was Indoor Track for schools, with an increase of 145 over the past year, and soccer had the most participants. Baseball and wrestling were at the bottom of the list for boys, while Swimming and Gymnastics were at the bottom for the girls Over 17,000 schools took part in the survey, which is a pretty good number to obtain results. Next week the winter season gets under way with the grapplers at Stevenson, the basketball team at Sycamore From now until March is going to be a long time, and a lot of activities are going to be taking place at McHenry High School Get out and support your favorite team.
