Mohler, whose wife, Linda, is the daughter of Pete and Peggy Mitzo of 1105 Oakwood drive, McHenry, recently participated in a medical evacuation about 1,000 miles northeast of Hawaii He is a crewmember aboard the destroyer USS Hewitt, homeported in San Diego. A man apparently suffering from severe hypertension aboard a Taiwanese container ship needed- immediate medical attention. The Hewitt received the distress call and raced at high speed, over 300 miles to intercept the ship Upon rendezvous, the man was transferred to the Hewitt due to lack of any medical facilities aboard the container ship, and transported to Pearl Harbor for treatment He and his shipmates then participated in exercise "Longex-78" off the northern approaches of New Zealand "Longex-78-' was designed to test ANZUS forces in various aspects of maritime warfare It took place in an area bounded by New Z^land. the Kermadic Islands. Fiji and New Calen donia The two-Week exercise in volved ships and aircraft from the United States. Australia and New Zealand Mohler joined the Navy in December. 1971 Navy Seaman Recruit Dawn V.
