A friend told me to pray about any worry and an answer would surely come within nine days. Well, the next day I started asking God to bless me with a husband and a father for my 5-year-old daughter. On the ninth day my little girl's father called me. He said, "I don't know why I'm calling, but I just had to call." I have not heard from him since, and it has been a year. Something tells me this was not a mere coincidence. Am I wrong to think so positive? Do you feel this man will become my husband? A. There is, I think, no reality in the belief that an answer to prayer will come within nine days. Indeed, it could come at once or at any time. The fact that your child's father telephoned could very well indicate that your prayers were operative. But the additional fact that you have not heard from him again would seem to indicate that he is not really interested. You are never wrong to think positively. Put the matter of a husband in God's hands and in His own good time He will answer your prayer. Won't Admit He's Getting Old Q. I'm really worried about my husband because this "age" business has gotten to be an obsession He retired and immediately went to work part-time. He says he's not a senior citizen, will not admit he's getting older and will not enter into activities that include anyone who is old. At home he takes a nap, sits and plays with the dog, watches sports on TV or reads. I've joined senior citizens activity groups. He says I'm getting old because I am with these old people, and that's all I talk about. I hate living like this, not enjoying the same things. A. I once had a friend named Frank Bering who, at 80, was general manager of the Sherman House in Chicago, a hotel with some 1,500 rooms. I asked him one time if he felt that he was getting old. He replied, "I don't know. I have never given it any thought." Then he added a piece of advice: "Live your life and forget your age." So, actually, it isn't a question of admitting or not admitting it. Rather, just forget it and live your life. Fill it full. Mingle with people of all ages. Be ageless. If your husband enjoys working part-time and doesn't feel old- isn't that fine? Learn to enjoy some of the sports and books your husband does, and maybe he will get interested in some of your activities. LOUISA'S LETTER Dear Louisa, My father was one of three children and when his father died he was the only one of the three who could run the farm and attend" to his mother's business so she told him if he would give up his place and bring his family to live with her and take care of her until she died the place would then belong to him. Well, this was agreeable with the other two children as the farm was not worth much at that time and neither of them could take care of their mother. My father was a hard work er and very smart and he has made the farm a very valuable piece of land so the problem is this: The other two think that they should share in the pro ceeds if it is sold or that my father should pay them for what they consider their shares. What do you think about this? Daughter-Tenn. Answer: A* bargain between people should be kept regardless of whether it was verbal or writ ten. But it's always safer to have such contracts in black and white. If your father had not taken over the farm and had worked for himself, the other children would have realized very little from its sale, as his mother's care would have cost that amount and much more before she died. The moral of this is to always have contracts written and signed and not depend on word of mouth. Louisa.
