Eight Years Of Recycling The McHenry County Defenders will celebrate the completion of eight years of recycling with the Dec. 16 drive.- Defenders are not only responsible for the Crystal Lake drives of eight years but also the drives that have been held in McHenry for almost five years Other cities in McHenry county have become involved in recycling too Cary, Har vard,* Lake Zurich and Woodstock, along with other organizations that hold their own drives and the permanent trailer located on Route 14 in Crystal Lake. Throughout the county, millions of pounds of paper and thousands of pounds of glass, tin and aluminum have been recycled. This year the Crystal Lake drives recycled ap proximately 234 tons of paper, and the McHenry drivfes recycled approximately 304 tons of paper Since one ton of paper recycled saves seventeen trees, the Defenders have saved over 9,146 trees this year alone These , figures, not only Plaindealer Deadlines Advanced For Holiday Because of the Christmas holiday falling on Monday, deadlines for the first Plaindealer published the following week will be moved ahead For news, classified and display advertising, deadlines will be Friday noon, Dec. 22, for the Dec. 27 issue. Correspondents for that newspaper must have their columns turned in by Thursday noon, Dec. 21. Deadlines remain as usual for the second publication that week illustrate the solid waste problem, but show what a great savings in virgin materials and resources can result. The power required to recycle any material is considerably less than that necessary to produce new materials Oil is the newest resource to be recycled at the Defenders' drives. Used oil should be put in a tightly sealed container (plastic detergent bottles, etc.) to be left at the drive. The location of the Dec. 16 McHenry Recycling drive has been changed to the West campus high school parking lot because of needed space for holiday parking at the McHenry Market Place. Paper, glass, cans and oil will be ac cepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This month's drive will be sponsored by Wonder Lake Cub Scout Troop 145. Deaths CHARLOTTE K KALINSKY Charlotte E. Perhaps a person with visual handicap? If we find a favorable response to this idea, we would probably use the larger type on just the front page or at the most two or three pages. A limited number of these papers would be printed and offered at no extra cost to those who wish to subscribe to it. an' ^^PetencT0,deZa,vi^a] by n test>ne J "Don. now anfj y our Qnu t>ej *:fWureLWiI1 be clh°o1 di< ^ l£°ar(i KeS'dere<l at a 'T He "ng- 9 ng rict IM *haSe<l '^aod U .-ducal."" psDon**""" „ said tne A Ho'*1, '..aucatvon program stably decent xsibie never \ocal haS !l^d be\p 10 Tan\e«orts promt Ijoaro-- •• c,u al f1 I I I I I I I I Bi COUPON _ YES I AM INTERESTED _ YES I KNOW SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE Name: Address: City: Phone:.
