((Don Peasley Photography) Senior and disabled citizens who have not filed for Illinois Circuit Breaker tax relief for the 1977 claim year have until Dec 31 to apply with the state The state's Circuit Breaker law makes tax relief available to Illinois citizens 65 and older, or disabled, who have annual household incomes of less than $10,000 The Circuit Breaker, ad ministered by the Illinois Department of Revenue, is composed of property tax and additional grant programs The property tax program is based on the ratio of a person's property taxes or rent to his or her income and provides up to $650 for 1977 tax relief The additional grant program, providing up to $100 in tax relief for 1977. is based on a person's income. Basically, anyone who qualifies for property tax relief automatically qualifies for additional tax relief Illinois citizens not eligible for property tax relief can qualify for additional tax relief as long as they are 65 or older or disabled and have an annual household income of less than $10,000. State revenue officials reminded eligible citizens who have not already filed for 1977 to get their applications in before the end of the year or they could lose out on these important tax relief benefits More than $105 million in tax relief was distributed to Illinois senior and disabled citizens during fiscal year 1978 under the state's Circuit Breaker law, revenue officials reported. The department authorized 335,436 property tax relief grants totaling $67,635,618 More than $35,555,700 was awarded in 475.022 additional tax relief grants Since the Circuit Breaker law was enacted in 1972, the state had paid more than $356 7 million in tax relief to Illinois' senior and disabled citizens under the program. * The program is commonly referred to as the Circuit Breaker because it is designed to act like the circuit breaker in a home's electrical system When taxes begin to overload a senior or disabled person's income, the Circuit Breaker law provides tax relief. You see a heavenly promise Of a sweeter day ahead Of love, and joy, and laughter In the path on which you tread For in that silver ray of sunshine Is a beauty that can't be surpassed It's a promise of peace and devotion That you know forever will last. Louise Hipwell THE LIGHT I lit a light in my window Trying to guide you there Hoping that you would always know . There is peace and comfort and care. I lit a light in my heart so mild That is warm and glowing and soft To keep you warm when the world is cold A light to be held aloft. I lit a light so that you would know A bright warm spot so rare y n A place in the world to call your own^ With plenty of love to share. The light still burns in my window And the light still burns in my heart And no matter where I am my dear You will always share a part. Louise Hipwell A TRIBUTE FOR VOLUNTEER FIREMEN There is a drama everyday played out Across this land of ours By men who work in many trades And we seldom hear about. All over our land A brave band of men Stand at our call Their service to lend They come in the daylight And come in the night At any hour There are fires to fight. We hear of soldiers marching to war And sailors manning their ships. But these brave men stand day and night With no complaint on their lips h They wake up in the dead of night And leave their work by day They go when they are tired out And when other people play It takes a special breed of man Unselfish and caring and just, The task they do carries token pay Their lives they offer for us. Ix*t me thank in my own small way These men at our beck and call In weather both bad and good I pray that they never may fall.
