V y PAGE 3 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, DECEMBER 29,1978 There's An Answer H>> Norman Vincent Peale and Kiilli Stafford IN'iilc) By Norman Vincent Peale and Ruth Stafford Peale Beer, pills and depression Q. About 3 years ago I had a nervous breakdown and have been struggling with fear, guilt and depression most erf the time since. Sometimes I don't want to live. I'm 30 years old, have three healthy children and a pretty understanding husband. I've been to doctors, psychologists and my pastor. I am on tranquilizers, but the two to three beers I drink daily help the most. But I feel guilty for drinking and taking pills. A. Your question gives the picture of a highly tensed-up, emotionalized, unhealthy thought pattern. If you can break through your cloud cover of mental mix-up into the light of rationality, you can have a happy life. This can be done, and many who were afflicted as you are have done it. To change from what you are to what you can be requires a complete overhauling of the way you think. The best advice we can give is to get changed spiritually. If this is sincerely done, you will change mentally. And as a result, everything will be better. We are sending your our booklet. Thought Conditioners. It has been used by about 25 million people, with astounding results. Anyone wishing a free copy may write to us at Box 500, Pawling, N.Y. 12564. Little boy in a big body Q. I am so confused because my husband has a dual personality. At times he behaves like a normal, loving husband and father, and then in a matter of seconds he can change into a raving person using threatening language and frightening me and our four teenage children to death. I feel I am dealing with a little boy in an adult's body that is always screaming for his way. I want to leave my husband, but I'm afraid of what he might do through madness if I did. Yet I don't feel I'm doing him any good by staying. A. It is possible that there is a holdover of a little boy in a big body. But your husband is a grown man now, and you are not required to endure this kind of behavior. He should be so informed in a cool and unemotional manner. There are usually reasons for such extreme and sudden changes in personality, so you would do well to get advice from your family doctor. Your husband may need medical or psychological treatment. It's all over now Q. I'm 16 going on 17. I've loved a guy for four years, but my parents wouldn't let us go with each other. We went through hell just to be together. I had a talk with my mother, and after thinking about is she said I could go back to my boyfriend. But I guess it's all over now He is going with another girl, and he'S on drugs. He's the nicest guy you would want to meet. How can I get over him or get back with him? A. Years ago I had a visit with the first Henry Ford, who said he had a philosophy that had helped him greatly in life. It was: "If you do your best, whatever happens is for the best." You did your best to work it out with this boyfriend Since he now has another girl and is on drugs, it would be smart just to forget him. Make other friends Go with other boys. Believe that you are being led to the right one.
