t PAGE 5-PLAINDEALER -WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 10. 1979 Sunnyside Area Betty Messer 4 344-2494 Village Hall Plans Proposed For a long time there has been talk in Sunnyside of building a village hall. Now it is becoming more than talk and closer to reality. At the Dec. 19. 1978 village meeting, president Nolan appointed a committee of sunnyside citizens to work on getting plans drawn up for a village hall. It is hoped that by spring plans will be ready and there will be a ground breaking ceremony. Appointed as chairman of the village hall committee is Don Gaylord, a former village president. Other members of the committee are Joe Met- zger. Butch Nowak. Howard Kopp, Bob Tomsa, A1 Van- Berkum and Bill Mitchell. Many of these men are in one form or another of consturction so are quite capable men for the job. The appointment of the committee was approved by the board of trustees and a sum of money authorized to get plans going. An architect will be consulted. I know we'll all be waiting the coming of spring and watching our village hall go up. Right now in the midst of this cold spell spring seems a long way off, but really it's just around the corner. I'll keep you posted as plans progress. VILLAGE MEETING Tuesday, Jan. 2, was the first scheduled meeting of the village of Sunnyside. A few brave souls showed up, but due to the lack of a quorum no business could be conducted. So president Nolan adjourned the meeting and all returned to the warmth of their firesides. NEW GRANDSON That long awaited grandchild finally made his arrival on Dec. 30, 1978. Thomas Wayne II was born to Sherry"^ond Tom Johnson of 805 Columbus, Lilymoor. Tommy weighed 9 lbs., 5 oz., and was 21 inches long on arrival. He was born in Delnor hospital in St. Charles. The paternal grandfather is Edmond Johnson of Florida and the maternal grandparents are Betty and Rich Messer of 1405 Bayview Lane, Sunnyside. Welcoming Tommy when he came home were his sisters Kristina and Kimberly DiCianni and Dawn Johnson. Tommy also has a great- grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Messer of Ingleside. And many aunts, uncles and cousins. PENNSYLVANIA VISITORS Jonnie and Arthur Cody of Carlisle, Pa., are enjoying a stay in Sunnyside with daughter and son-in-law. Jonnie and BillBoike, and their children. The Boikes reside at 4017 Sunset.J The Co(fys are former residents of the McHenry area. They came\o Illinois on Dec. 17 and plan to\j*eturn to Carlisle around Feb. 1. If we get much more snow they'll be staying until the spring thaws. The Codys say they don't get as much snow in Pennsylvania as we get here in Illinois. DOG COMPLAINTS Once again complaints are coming into the clerk's office of dogs being allowed to run loose. It seems it's always the same offenders ignoring the laws. One party in particular, whose pet has bitten several people, still allows his dog to run loose. Formal complaints have been signed against some of these people, which they also choose The MeHenrv Plaindealer (USPS 335-200) Established 1875 3812 West Elm Street ( Phone 385-0170 McHenry, Illinois 60050 Published Every Wednesday £ Friday at McHenry, Illinois Second Class Postage Paid at McHenry, Illinois By McHENRY PUBLISHING COMPANY Sub»crib*r> or* r»qu«t«*d to provide imm*diot« notic* of chang* el addrait to The McHenry Plaindealer Ml} W. If enough people call and complain, maybe these thougntless. in considerate. so-called pet lovers will get the message. SNOW REMOVAL Winter has barely begun and we already have above average snowfall. The village snow removal company is doing the best job it can. The past week, mail deliveries were hampered by snow drifts in front of the mail boxes. Some residents didn't get mail for a few days. It is not the responsibility of the snow removal company to clear snow from in front of the mail boxes. It is each resident's responsibility to clear in front of his own mail box. So if you want your mail delivered, clear the way for the mail man. The message comes from the post office people, who asked me to mention this in this column. There is another message for those who leave cars on the street. Our snow removal company is doing the best it can to keep our roads open It is severely hampered by cars parked in the street Plows must go around them and then streets do not get plowed properly. This cuts down the width of a street, also. Some cars left out even block other people s driveways, making it difficult for cars to get out. Let's all make a New Year's resolution to be more con^ siderate of our neighbors, mailman and snow removal company, APRIL ELECTIONS In April the village of Sun nyside will be holding elections for four trustee posts and the village clerk's office. Three trustees are four year positions and one is for two years. The election of a clerk is for the last two years of a four year term. .Petitions and requirements for offices are available from the present clerk for anyone desiring to run for one of these positions. For jpore in formation call Sunnyside village clerk. 385-6023. BIRTHDAYS This week we have just one birthday girl. Dawn Heim celebrates her day on Jan 11. Happy birthday. Dawn, and many more to come. Gospel Film At Alliance „ The Alliance church, 3815 Bull Valley roud, McHenry, will present the gospel film. The Miracle Goes On", during the evening service Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. This is a feature length film on the life of John W. Peterson, perhaps America's best known contemporary gospel song writer. He is a prolific writer, coming up with song after song about the Saviour and His love and salvation to man. Peterson is often associated with the Moody Bible institute. While still a student there, he came very briefly to the Mayfair Bible church as choir director. ' The Alliance church choir sang his contata, "The Night of WISHES Here it is a brand new year and I want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New year. I 'm writing this as 1 thaw nut from an early morning power shortage that left the Sunnyside area without elec tricity this morning. Miracles", this Christmas season. To hear this beautiful contata singing of the birth of the Lord and Saviour of mankind is considered to be a great blessing Pastor Gerald Robertson invites the community to come and see the film and share in the blessing of fellowship The film will start promptly at 7 p.m Sunday evening POETS CORNER 0 THE SKATER Smoothly sailing over the new slick sea. Abandoned with the dawn of night The brisk skater glides unnoticed A gentle bitter wind Silently stings his scarlet cheeks Which seek no shelter. A giant orb stealthily climbing Above the unsuspecting trees Provides guidance along the winding path The rhythmic scratch of the narrow blades, As they slyly skim through the still night; Whistles a soft melody on the sensitive ear Aloije and unwatched. The nimble skater vanishes, Closely pursued by darkness. by Jerry Larkin w spurgeon's Art Needlework Sale! Work Your Own Magic and Save No Less Than Knit, needle, hook, paint your favorite projects!
