Total contributions at the present time are $32,000 and with a goal of $315,000 to be achieved, there is still a long wav to go. While McHenry county followed the trend of the state in supporting many favorite candidates who emerged victorious, voters here failed to record even a 50 percent tur­ nout while statewide the figure was believed to be nearer 60 percent. The Whispering Oaks community had the largest percentage locally with 67 percent voter turnout. There were few surprise with Charles Percy being returned for this third term as Republican U.S. Senator and Governor Thompson starting his second term, but his first four-year term. Cal Skinner, Jr., of Crystal Lake announced his candidacy for the office of United States senator in 1980. Skinner, 36, was just reelected to a fourth term in the Illinois House of Representatives* capturing 46.5 percent of the votes cast in the 33rd district's three-way race. The City Council voted to accept the Zoning Board of Appeals recommendation that the request for a zoning variation by Barbara Gerasch be granted. It was the second time the city had granted the request. Barbara Gerasch had requested a variation to enable her to move her telephone answering service from the present location on Pearl street to a new residence on Park street. Presented to the board for consideration were eighteen ideas for in­ creased safety of riders, ac­ counting for passengers, and for records systems to provide medical and home information in an emergency situation. Changes in the tentative budget given an okay last month by the McHenry County board were viewed by mem­ bers in a special meeting, followed by final approval of the document. The total was $13,882,318, up $3,500 frojn the tentative figure. The 1978 winner 0f the Woman of the Year award of the McHenry Business & Professional Women's club was llaverne Gregory, in recognition for her Jong and effective service^to the com­ munity. Her untiring effort in behalf of the cancer prevention and care movement was largely responsible for her selection.
