The loss eliminated the Warriors from the tournament. In the second annual high school tournament Phil Kent of McHenry was the only player undefeated in the double elimination and Kathy McAndrews, also of McHenry, won over Marguerite Mattei of Grant high school in the Round Robin-total point cham pionship. Mike Zimmerman, a senior. was named Wrestler of the Week after placing second in the 167 lb. weight class at an nual sixteen team Holiday tournament held at Rockford Boylan. Coach Mike Shanahan presented awards to Jim Hall and Darreld Sek of the MCHS water polo team. Hall, voted Most Valuable, is a senior forward and led the team is assists with 44. He was also second highest scorer with 31 goals. Sek, a sophomore and starting goalie on the team, received the Most Improved award. Coach Bill Blankenhorn's sophomore cagers ran their record to 10 and 1 with a win over Fremd of Palatine, 61 to 50. The sophs ran up an 18 to i3 first quarter lead and increased their margin to a whooping 36 to 22 halftime margin. In the final half the young Warriors toasted to an easy victory. Coach Pam Schaefer's McHenry high school girl's basketball team lost to Wauconda by the score of 73 to 53. It was a case of too much experience on the pact of the Wauconda veteran team. The local girls, ift spite of k margin too great to overcome, played an excellent second Aalf of the game. The McHenry high Warriors held off a last minute rally and defeated the Zion ZeeBees 58 and 54 in a North Suburban Conference. It was the Warriors first conference win of the season and broke a six game losing streak. Coach Martin Sobczak's arsity wrestling team for- »ited two weight classes to help Zion-Benton win the conference dual 36 to 17. Had it not been for those forfeits, the match would have been a lot closer (17-24) , with the ZeeBees winning in six of the remaining weight classes and the Warriors in four. Don Bentz's two free throws with eight seconds remaining clinched a thrilling Warrior varsity win 58 to 57 over Woodstock at West campus. It was a typical Streak-Warrior game, a battle down to the final gun. The McHenry high sophomore basketball team easily defeated Woodstock by the score of 62 to 33. After the opening minutes it was simply no ^contest as the young Warri5r*comped and played to an easy win. Before a good crowd at West campus gym, the even year graduates defeated the odd numbered basketball crew score of 73 to 70. It was a jfin, happy time with both ^ides using their bench and yet a bit of competition was evident between the two groups. There are people, plenty of them, who never thought they'd see the author of the So I Hear column wearing a Cub cap. The details aren't clear but it ap pears to have happened at the second annual baseball banquet at Johnsburg. Randy Hundley, Cub catcher-coach, Oick Rabbitt, Herb Reihan- sperger, John Busscher and A1 Jourdan just may have had something to do with it- At the North Suburban Conference Wrestling tour nament in Libertyville, McHenry varsity wrestlers captured one first, one third and two fourth places. Senior Mike Zimmerman decisioned his Mundelein opponent 9-6 in the first round, scored a major decision over his Libertyville foe 10-1 in the second round, and won the class cham pionship over Mike Barge of Crystal Lake by a 5-2 score.
