The win gave the locals a season record of 12 wins and 4 losses best ever for a McHenry swimming team. Ken Swanson's McHenry Warrior baseball team swept a doubleheader at Lake Forest, 4 to 0 and 8 to 5. The twin victory enabled the Warriors to take over the lead in the North Suburban with a 7 and 2 record. At the annual Ladies Nite of Johnsburg Community club, A1 May was presented a plaque for his achievements in basketball at North Park college. North Park college was the winner of Division 3, NCAA Cham­ pionship this year. Besides being a star on this team, A1 was also captain. The Old Bridge Softball club rebounded from an opening game loss to win four straight games and capture the con­ solation trophy at the Dug Out Inn in Trevor, Wis. The McHenry high track team in cool weather showed their heels to Zion and Crystal Lake in a triangular meet held in Zion. The Warriors scored 724 pts. to Zion's 57, and the Tigers trailed with 484. MCHS Girls track awards were presented by Coach Pam Shaffer to the outstanding members of the track team. Receiving the MVP award was Carrie Mortell, while Terry D'Angelo and Sue Moulis shared the most improved award. Coach Bonnie Ruggero presented the MVP award to Jackie Wolf of the varsity MCHS girls team. Cindy Mann was voted the most improved player. Steve Haines was undefeated this year in dual meet com- petion and easily won the district and sectional com- petions. Steve, an eighth grader ran his time of 2:07.2 at the state finals held in Morton. He missed the state junior high record by only two seconds. Haines was also the anchor man on the 880 Medley Relay team. He was joined by eighth graders. Dennis Deja and Dave Giagnomi, and seventh grade/' Jim Wynveen. A former McHenry resident Walter Harbecke caught a Tarpon while fishing in the Caloosahatchee river near his home in Florida. Harbecke caught the tarpon while tarpon hunting for the first time. The fish weighed 110 pounds. Winners in the McHenry County Insurance Youth golf classic were Bob Frueh.Crystal Lake, first; Pat Sweeney, McHenry, second; Steve Kivley, McHenry, third; Pat Becker, McHenry, fourth; and Tom Kuntz of Crystal Lake, fifth, and sixth place went to Ron Waytula, McHenry. The first three place winners qualify to participate in the state tournament at Silver Lake Country club in Orland Park. Petersen park is the setting for the newly opened city tennis courts which are now available for play. John Eustice, tennis coach and teacher and long­ time recreation leader, directs a series of six-week's courses for both adult and children beginners.
