You'll enjoy those 'fond memories' when July's sweltering heat arrives. CAUTION One resident of the village reported that while she was on the phone one day, someone knocked on her front door several times and then just walked into her house. It was a stranger, and he fled when she yelled at him. This incident serves as a word of caution to those who leave their doors unlocked. Don't. RESCUE 50 Dave and Debbie Acred were all set to do their part for the rescue squads in the annual snowmobile 'Rescue 50' ride on Jan. 14. However, the snow, usually the snowmobiler's friend, proved even too much for the helmeted crowd, and the ride was postponed. We wish them good weather for their next attempt at the ride. VILLAGE BOARD NEWS President Lillegard lost no time in seeking grants from the federal government for costs involved in snow removal and possibly equipment rental. She appeared before the board Jan. 17, to seek a resolution per mitting her to apply for the funds. Residents can aid the village by uncovering known fire hydrants and uncovering mailboxes and clearing the snow from in front of the boxes. Every shovelful does make a difference. Terry Marsh has been ap pointed building inspector for the village; Lon Reed is building and zoning off fleer. The next board meeting is, Wed., Feb. 7, 7:30 p.m. at the village annex. Nature, ever constant reminder that it holds the upper hand. Post Holiday Surplus Requested By Goodwill Goodwill Industries, the agency serving handicapped men and women in this area, is now appealing for post- Christmas surplus of toys, clothing, shoes and housewares in order to expand its services during the winter, according to Mrs. Nick (Agnes) Adams, local Goodwill representative. The Goodwill truck is scheduled to be in McHenry Friday, Jan. 26 to make house calls. Since Goodwill only goes where it is invited, the local residents are asked to call 385- 0863 for pickup arrangements. The articles donated by the people of the community are used to train the handicapped in the process of renovation. They are then sold in Goodwill retail outlets and the sales provides the wages for the employed trainees. "The public is the major factor in the Goodwill plan, for without their help . and donations of leftovers, seconds, outdated and damaged goods, Goodwill Industries would not exist and the training of hundreds of disabled men and women would cease", Mrs. Adams said. For information or club presentations, see your local Goodwill representative. The public is always welcome to tour the workshops.
