PAGE 6 -PLAINDEALER- WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24, 1979 Johnsburg Skyhawks Fall To Marengo Five 62 - 59 < The Johnsburg Skyhawks fell to Marengo in an exciting 62-59 contest Saturday night in the Marengo gymnasium. The victory boosted Marengo's conference record to 5-0, and Johnsburg now is 3-2 in the Shark Conference. • The Skyhawks and the In dians traded the lead several times throughout the game. Sky hawk forward Tom- Schoenig matched Scott Dixon's 14 point to share high scoring honors for Johnsburg. Schoenig, a junior, played an aggressive game and helped a great deal under the boards. Dixon continued to pump in several 20-foot jump shots, but the Skyhawk scoring effort was not enough to overtake the «r Marengo squad. «* - Ray Bauman of Marengo hit '-nine field goals and five free throws to lead the Indians with 23 points. Center Scott Marks scored 15 points for Marengo. Skyhawk coach Bob Kies was disappointed in the number of assists his team had during the game. "During the first half we only had three assists," he said, "and for the game we had a total of 11 assists. Why the last game alone (Scott) Dixon himself had 10 assists. We just weren't playing as a team". Johnsburg was scheduled to travel to North Boone Tuesday night for another important conference game. North Boone is 4-2 in the conference and the holder of second place. For the Skyhawks it is a very busy basketball week. On Friday Johnsburg hosts Hononegah in a conference game, and on Saturday the Skyhawks travel to Woodstock. JOHNSBURG fg ft pf tp S. Dixon 6 2 4 14 C. Mo6t of all, I think about all of the wonderful people we have met. Who would have thought that Mom and Dad would make so many new friends when the girls joined Softball. Now, let me tell you about our picnic at the end of the season. First we have the All-Star games. After each divisions games the trophies are passed out. (This is when you kick yourself for leaving your camera on the kitchen table.) After that we have the picnic. And just when everyone is too full to move, someone says that it,s time for he coaches vs. managers game. Somehow everyone always gets involved. You can always tell by the way people are limping around town saying, "I didn't know that there were muscles there!" Eventually it all ends, usually with a big sigh. Coach Schaefer was quite pleased with her team after the win. She had nothing but praise for the girls, and commented "It sure felt good to get that first conference win". The late Mayor Daly would have told them where to find the mistletoe. Since the days when McHenry had only one truck to plow snow, our city has had the reputation of being cleared the best of any municipality for miles around. In spite of some complaints, McHenry still enjoys the same reputation. That's what we hear from those who travel the area. When "Peggy" Feltz, with his two-wheel cart, shovel and broom .constituted McHenry's entire street department, the natives used to ride him about the snow and ice on the streets. "Peggy's" answer was, "Let the Man who put it there take it away". What an ad: "Pants one third off." Not in this cold winter. ^Some humor comes ouf of the, storm for those who observe Like Rev. Dick Rabbitt sends a note that all sports activities were cancelled the past weekend. Now we have to look around for sports stories to fill those vacant spots. It was no skin off my shins no matter who won the super bowl game, but something amazing happend. I picked the winner. The game's most valuable player, Terry Bradshaw, again showed his class as he led the Steelers to victory. Nobody cut him off at the pass as he threw for over 300 yards. The Cowboys certainly threw a scare into Steeler fans in that last quarter to make it a tight finish. They went down fighting. Met an old friend and McHenry High schoolmate,Dr. Leo Thelen, Sunday and didn't know him. It has been many years since we last met. Funny how other people change. We remember Leo as a true friend with a sense of humor. He was a hard worker and showed his mettle in working his way through medical school at the U. of I. It would take at least a half day to cover all those memories of our high school days. THE MEANING OF SUCCESS That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; , who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it whether by a perfect poem or a rescued soul; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. The Johnsburg sophomores found that out as they lost to Marengo 54-31 in a conference game Saturday. The Skyhakws had only four players in the scoring column, compared with 11 players who collected points for Marengo cause. And the Skyhawk field goal percentage was a dismal 30 percent. It was frustrating evening for coach Jim Albright and his sophomores. Rick Neiss.who has been the spark plug of the Johnsburg machine, led the Skyhawks with 12 points. The speedy sophomore made most of his baskets from a distance of 15 feet. Now that the heat wave has hit us, maybe there will be more activity. In the bowling department, four men did great jobs: C. Young had 215 and 541, W. Farrell had 212 and 196 for 579, R. BRER TOM'S CLOSING TIP: Keep your hooks so sharp they will hang on your thumbnail when tested. Fish have tough mouths and it takes a»sharp hook to penetrate. Carry a good, six- inch file, and touch up every hook point that needs it. Then, practice how and when to set that hook, and the fish will get the point! What happens when a cold front and a warmVront meet head-on? What are the char acteristics of the Notationary front produced? A cold front, runnin^pfTto warm front with about equal •momentum, stagnates and marks time. The warm front also comes to a halt and the result, where the two air masses have met, is a station ary front. k stationary front almost always produces prolonged rain and cloud and erratic wind currents. Sometimes the rain lasts for many days, until one of the systems breaks through the other or another strong front moves in. If you're planning to fly in private aircraft, the weather map symbol of a stationary front should be highly dis couraging, for landing and navigating in such an area is hazardous and often dangerous. Stationary fronts occur dur ing the change of seasons. This spell of bad weather was called by oldtimers the "turn of the seasons."
