A quick pin was scored by heavyweight senior Tim Hocin over Cabaltera of the Zee-Bees in 1:0k Jpe Nfrillen (126) piled up a 14-2 superior decision over Zee-Bee Pena. Decisions were also scored for McHenry by Brian Wrona, Junior Rivera and Dave Ramer. Wrona (119) downed Tapin 7-5, Rivera (138) outwrestled Kanbel 6-2 and Ramer (145) topped Wicken- sheim 8-4. Ed Hughes (155) and Tony Bates wrestled to a 4-4 drew. Junior Varsity Warrior Mark Betancourt (145) decisioned Trice in an 8-3 match, while Amando Gomez chalked up a quick fall in 1:21 over Vanover in an exhibition match. Freshman Tom Ketchum (155) also pinned his Zee-Bee opponent, Senter, in 3:37, while teammate Scott Schmitt (112) won an 8-1 decision over Ditzig. Friday night against a strong Jacobs team the Wrestling Warriors did not fair as well. The McHenry varsity handed Jacobs five forfeits for 30 free points. Only Wrona and Hughes collected points for the Warriors during this 49-8 loss. Hughes piled up a 13-1 superior decision over Richter, while Wrona scored an 11-4 decision over Ilkow. The Junior Varsity lost to Jacobs 42-14 with McHenry earning a pin, two decisions, and a tie. Three forfeits padded the Jacobs score by 18 unearned points. Mark Betancourt pinned Martenson in 3:15, and his brother, Vic (126) decisioned Schau by 5-4. Bob Roewer (155) squeezed past Nelson 6-5 while Scott Zimmerman (98) and McGinley wrestled to a 7-7 draw." Top records as the dual meet season draws to a close are held by Ed Hughes 8-5-1 and Junior Rivera 8-7-4. Tim Hocin with 4 pins currently holds the most falls record. The first conference wrestling tournament for the new Fox Valley Conference will begin this Friday evening at Woodstock. Mat action begins at 6:30 and continues Saturday a£ 1:00 with the finals at 6:30. Tickets for each session are available at the door. Top teams going into this tourney are Crown, Woodstock and Cary-Grove, but this is always the opportunity for stronger mat men from some of the weaker teams to shine. MCHS Sophs Lose To Jacobs Cagers 64-56 The Johnsburg sophomore squad improved its record to 9- 5 over the weekend with two stunning victories. The Skyhawks crushed Woodstock 57-43 on Saturday and Hononegah 46-32 on Friday, and Coach Jim Albright's team is beginning to come around on both offense and defense. "We are beginning to play team ball, says Albright. "We have had real balanced scoring both nights." Saturday the sophomores hit 69 percent fr<jm the field against Woodstock and kept their opponents to only 16 points in the first half. But it wak against Hononegah on Friday night that the Skyhawk defense really kept the club in the game. Johnsburg scored only one point in the first quarter, but held the Hononegah team to five points. The Skyhawks pulled away to an eight-point lead in the third quarter and maintained command of the game until the final buzzer. The sophomores now have a 3-3 conference record. The Mustangs finished the Fox Valley Conference league and tournament schedule without a loss. Montini received a first- round bye because of its first place finish in league play. In the second round Montini defeated the Big Hollow Warriors in an exciting, overtime game by a score of 42 to 35. Bill Hermann paced the victors with 19 points while Mark Thompson contributed 8 points. Ed Kennedy and Gary Freund sparked the Mustangs with excellent defensive plays. Subsitutes played an important role in this "whistte-filled" contest. Jeff Smith and -Steve Aim responded for( the Mustangs with fine performances. Tim Truckenbrod dominated the backboards for the Mustangs before leaving the game with five fouls. In the Championship game, Montini crushed the Richmond Rams by a score of 53 to 30. The Mustangs combined a tenacious pressing defense and a crisp passing attack to baffle Richmond. Jim Leon pumped in 16 points from the outside while Bill Hermann chipped in 12 points* from the inside for the con­ ference champs. Tom Wember, John Wegener and Steve Aim were also very instrumental in the Montini offensive passing game. Tim Truckenbrod and John Zabielski were also helpful in shutting off the Ram inside attack. The Montini Mustang Basketball Team has now extended their undefeated string to 20 games and their overall 1978-79 season record to 25 victories and 2 losses. Coach Pat Wirtz's McHenry sophomores lost to Jacobs Friday night by the score of 64 to 56. After both teams were tied at the end of the first period, the Eagles jumped out to a 34 to 28 halftime lead, and the Warriors could not over­ come that margin and went down to defeat.
