[ =*f= CUB SCOUTS Pack 142 At first the Cub Scouts of Pack 142 were disappointed to learn that their Pine Wood derby was cancelled, but they were pleased that it was re scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27th. Luckily the weather held out and the Cubs and their parents enjoyed an exciting derby conducted by Cub Scout Master Ed Fowler, with help from Bob Leonard, assistant Cub Scout Master. The judges did a wonderful job deciding which car finished each heat in which order. They also picked three cars from each age group for the Best of Show award, and ultimately decided on the Best of Show award for the Pack. The judges were: Scout Master Stew Hoak from Pack 131, assistant Scout Master David Nylander from Pack 459, Mr. Neal Anderson and Mr. Jim Whiston. And the winners were: Best of Show, eight year old group, Glenn Michael Gates; nine year old winner, Richard Threlkeld and ten year old winner, Rodney Calnek. In the Pack Best of Show presen tations, Rodney was first; Richard, second and Glenn Michael, third. Congratulations to these boys and their dads on the fine workmanship shown with each design. Shawn Miller was the winner with the fastest car in the eight year old age group. The nine year olds were out-raced by Jimmy Watkins, and Michael Knight was the fastest ten year old entrant. The Pack cham pionship was won in the following order: Jimmy no. 1, Shawn, no. 2 and Michael, no. 3. Even the den leaders made Pine Wood derby cars this year, and they all challenged Cub Master Ed Fowler. Mrs. Betty Neff, leader of DeirP3, far out-distanced each challenger, including Mr. Fowler's Spider car. Other leaders who raced ware: Pat Shantholtzer, Den 1, Conny Metzgar, Den 2, and Lela Fowler, Den 5. Bill Met zgar, Weblos den leader, also raced a car. Everyone involved in the exciting afternoon appreciates all the help from the following parents who assisted in weighing, inspecting and registering each entrant's car. These parents are: Jim Fantus, Dan Drake, Donna Gates, Anne Moore, Janet Watkins, Mary Kennedy, Pam Brackman, George Zinke, Harriett Hammar and activities chairperson, Sue Warren, who was vactioning in sunny Miami at the time. The next meeting of Pack 142 will be the Blue and Gold dinner. have a nice weekend UFTA mTMSQhU the professional do-it-yourself carpet cleaning « 00 \'i Day Ai HALF DAY Mon. thru Thurs.
